Timeless Season 1 already had Supernatural connections, but the creator of the two shows takes the connections further with Season 2.

Timeless Season 2’s premiere date has finally been released. Supernatural and Timeless share the same creator, so it’s not that surprising that there are a few links between them here and there. After all, the first season saw both Misha Collins and Jim Beaver take on roles. Season 2 has a very special connection, linking to the Supernatural Season 2.

After the announcement that Timeless Season 2 would premiere on March 11 at 10/9c on NBC, Kripke took to Twitter to give a few hints of the things to expect. Among that list was the name Robert Johnson. The blues guitarist was used in the second season of SPN, when the crossroad demons were first officially introduced.

Who was Robert Johnson?

Supernatural makes a good attempt of the blues legend. The inspiration for works from bands like U2 and Led Zeppelin has a dark and mysterious history. He seemed to appear on the blues circuit out of nowhere, first with the harmonica and then with the guitar, which he is most well-known for. In 1938, after recording 29 blues songs, he was poisoned.

In the series, Dean Winchester points out that Johnson’s music was full of hell hounds, the devil, making deals and more. Two of his most popular songs are “Crossroad” and “Hellhound on My Tail,” making many suggest that he once made a deal with the devil for his gift of music and the night he was poisoned was the night the devil came to collect his end of the bargain. Kripke used a version of that story for the episode “Crossroad Blues.”

Now Kripke is focusing on Johnson again. How the character will fit into Timeless is unknown. For those who haven’t seen the series, it’s about a group who travel through time on missions to prevent history being changed by another man. In the first season they came across the likes of Al Capone, the Alamo and Abraham Lincoln. Krikpe’s listed names and events for Season 2, including Marie Curie, the Salem Witch Trials, and, of course, Johnson.

There will likely be many more Supernatural links to come. After all, there are a bunch of Easter Eggs in the first season (such as the Roadhouse).
