7) Simon’s Mark of Cain

Ok, let’s start off with an easy one. Many fans immediately recognized how the trailer shows Simon with the Mark of Cain for the first time on the series. In the scene, he’s standing with two men (possibly sent by Raphael?) outside of the Jade Wolf and his boathouse, when he’s attacked by another Downworlder. The man swings an object at Simon’s head, but the mark activates and creates a shield, causing the weapon to burst apart into fragments.

What’s most strange though, is that the trailer’s editing leads us to believe it’s the Seelie Queen who gives Simon the Mark of Cain. You’ll remember that at the end of Season 2, Simon made a deal with the Seelie Queen in exchange for Maia’s safety, and secretly reentered the Seelie Realm during the celebration at Hunter’s Moon.

In the trailer, we clearly see Simon’s hands restrained behind him, and Meliorn approach him with a blade as the Queen tells him, “Though you walk in the daylight, darkness with follow.” Even though another character gives Simon the Mark in the books, it looks as though Shadowhunters will have the Seelie Queen’s knight do the honors. Now we’re just curious as to whether she’s acting out of jealously, or if there’s a greater reason for drawing the Mark on his head.
