This week for our #WomanCrushWednesday we’re honoring Supernatural’s very own badass Sheriff, Donna Hanscum.

Supernatural’s  Donna Hanscum has sure come a long way from when she is first introduced in Season 9. In just five short seasons she’s gone from unassuming sheriff with no clue about anything supernatural, to a woman who can hold her own against the baddest of the bad.

As Donna moves to become a series regular on the spinoff Wayward Sisters (yes, I’m confident it will get picked up), let’s take a look at why she’s awesome. And why she’s our #WomanCrushWednesday.

She is hilarious

When Donna is on the show, you can almost guarantee that she will provide the comic relief. In the beginning when she has no clue about monsters, and her lack of knowledge easily plays off as comedy. Her interactions with everyone on the show have some kind of humor instilled in it. She’s flighty. She’s spontaneous.  Much of what she does are decisions she’s made by the seat of her pants.

Reintroducing her in Season 13 for the Wayward Sisters pilot, we get to see a new side of her.  When she rolls up to the other women, the first line out of her mouth is a joke. As she’s helping fight the monsters from another world, she does so with crackling wit. The show has definitely set her up with being the comic relief in the spinoff, which is great. Her humor is one of the best aspects of her, and one of the reasons her character is so popular.

More from Supernatural

She kicks butt

Donna has come a long way since she has been introduced. In the beginning, the Winchesters make sure to keep her in the dark about monsters. And then  she and Jody meet in Season 10, and boom! She’s killing vampires. By season 13, not only is she killing vampires, she’s amazing at killing vampires.

When she comes back for her “origin story” to explain why she ends up living with Jody and the Wayward Sisters, we see a side of her we’ve never seen before. And not only can she hold her own in a fight, she can hold her own in an interrogation. The scene of her interrogating that traveling preacher is probably the best Donna scene in the whole show. No one can mess with her.

She’s a mentor

During the backdoor pilot, Donna meets Patience for the first time. Patience is new to this whole supernatural thing. She doesn’t know what to do with a gun, and is reluctant to even hold one. That doesn’t stop Donna from handing one over to her, and giving her a quick lesson.

When Patience freezes up in a fight, Donna gives her a pep talk. She tells Patience that she can do it. She can fight these monsters. And, that’s all Patience needs in order to do what needs to be done.

If (when) Wayward Sisters gets picked up to series, Donna will definitely play a major role in mentoring these young girls. I think she and Patience will grow close as she passes her hunting wisdom onto Patience. And maybe she’ll also form a great relationship with the other girls as well.
