It’s been 10 years since Breaking Bad amazed audiences, and since then the show has lived on with a legacy that has produced a Better Call Saul spin-off, as well as a real-life fast food restaurant based off of Los Pollos Hermanos.
The show itself established many beloved characters, but no one stole the show like Aaron Paul’s portrayal of Jesse Pinkman. It says a lot about his impact since the original intent of the character was to be killed in season 1. The tension between Walter White and Jesse Pinkman brought a level of character chemistry that audiences have not seen in recent years so it’s not a wonder Vince Gilligan would consider giving Pinkman his own show.
Well, in an interview with Digital Spy, it appears Vince Gilligan has given it some thought and speculates the fate of the character. Here is what he had to say about a Jesse Pinkman spinoff:
"“You never know if that character may get revisited in the future. Anything’s possible… There could have been police right around the next corner. Or there could have been an unfettered, free future for him. I personally would like to think he got away, because he paid his dues tenfold. I like to believe he got away. I don’t really know in terms of what he should be doing as a career. I just hope he would get away, and meet somebody nice, and not be a criminal anymore and not face those horrors that he faced. I always liked that character. I always had a soft spot for him.”"
Personally, I do like the idea of Jesse Pinkman getting his happy ending, and just leaving it there. At the same time though, it could be interesting to see a series about him starting over, and having a new life, shedding the identity he had before. This is a good idea if they can get all the right people involved.
The idea has possibilities and potential, but I’m not sure if we will ever see this happen. Especially since Aaron Paul is hard at work with his Hulu series The Path. This being said, much like Better Call Saul, there will always be more room for characters like Jesse Pinkman in the hearts of Breaking Bad audiences.
