Supernatural Season 13 is making a return to the Apocalypse World. In case you want a few reminders of the universe and the characters there, here are the episodes you’ll need to watch.

It’s been a while since we’ve been in the Apocalypse World. While Jack made his way there in the Supernatural Season 13 midseason finale, it’s been even longer since we’ve seen Michael, Mary, Bobby and more. It’s completely understandable if you need a reminder or two about the Apocalypse World.

There’s still time tonight to get ready for the all-new episode tomorrow. These three are the ones you’ll want to catch tonight.

Caution: There are spoilers about the episodes in this brief look at them.

The Supernatural Season 12 finale

Let’s start with the last episode of Season 12. “All Along the Watchtower” saw the rift open. At first, it wasn’t clear what could pass through it or what it really was, but Castiel quickly took the plunge and walked through. He came across Apocalypse Bobby, who instantly knew that Castiel was nothing like his celestial beings; he didn’t have a necklace of teeth!

Once the Winchesters learned about the rift, they finally had a way to keep their world safe from Lucifer. Their plan was to trap him there, with no way of getting back to their own world. Of course, Crowley was needed to do that and closing the rift required a life.

The whole plan didn’t quite work out, but Lucifer did find himself trapped.

Supernatural Season 13: The Rising Son

The second episode of Supernatural Season 13 took us back to the Apocalypse World. We finally got to see not just how Lucifer and Mary were handling the situation and finding their way around, but the leader of the universe. Apocalypse Michael showed up and instantly made it clear who won the apocalypse in this world.

It wasn’t all words, either. Apocalypse Michael and Lucifer got into a fight and it looked like Lucifer was going to see the end of his life. In the end, Apocalypse Michael decided not to kill Lucifer, because he needed him for something bigger. It wouldn’t be until a few episodes later that we’d find out what that was.

Supernatural Season 13: War of the Worlds

Episode 7 of the current season took us back to the Apocalypse World and we finally got a chance to see why Lucifer was needed. Michael saw the world that Lucifer and Mary had come from, realizing that God was gone and it was free for him to take over. Now he just needed a way through.

This was also the episode that brought back a very special prophet: Kevin! Apocalypse Kevin was extremely different to the one we’d remembered from Seasons 8 and 9, and it was awesome. It just showed the type of influence the Winchesters have on a person, making them stronger, more impressive versions of themselves.

We finally learned why Apocalypse Michael needed Lucifer. It wasn’t just to learn about the Paradise World, but also to open a new rift. While the rift opened, Lucifer had his chance to escape the alternate universe, opening the chance for Sam, Dean and Cass to learn all about the world.
