Supernatural is going to return to the Apocalypse World tomorrow night, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen it. Here’s a quick reminder to get you ready for the dangers and perils Mary and Jack face.

Supernatural Season 13 is back with new episodes this week and we couldn’t be happier. On top of that, we get to see Jim Beaver return as Apocalypse Bobby and Zachariah will return in a new form. That means some time will be spent in the Apocalypse World. It’s been a while since we’ve properly been there and usually it’s only for a few minutes at a time, so it’s understandable if you’ve forgotten all the details.

With all that in mind, here’s your 5-minute reminder of the Apocalypse World in Supernatural. Now you have no excuse to wonder where you are when you see the screen go a little grey.

The world where the Winchesters were never born

It was quickly established that the big difference between the Paradise World and the Apocalypse World was the Winchesters. The brothers weren’t born because John Winchester was killed by Azazel. Mary never made the deal to bring John back to life–or maybe she was never given that chance to make the deal. Azazel would later kill Mary.

Apocalypse Bobby never met John, but did run with Mary (who remained a Campbell). Azazel was still around in the Apocalypse World until at least 10 years prior to Sam, Dean and Castiel meeting this version of Bobby, and he could still be around now. After all, Bobby never mentions that Azazel has been killed. It’s also possible that all the other Princes of Hell are still around, since they were all take out by the Winchesters (bar Asmodeus, who is still alive and kicking in the Paradise World).

It’s run by Apocalypse Michael

Michael the archangel won the apocalypse in this world and it’s clear from the look of it that he doesn’t really care about the humans. Honestly, we expected this sort of treatment to the world from Lucifer (well, sort of), but Michael? This shows us that maybe, just maybe, Lucifer really is the lesser of two evils—and Ketch is certainly the lesser of at least three!

The Apocalypse World is run by Apocalypse Michael with an iron fist. Think of him as the dictator who never want to meet, and not just of the country but of the entire world. Anyone who goes against him is smited and anyone he doesn’t trust is placed in a cage and tortured.

Now he’s learned about this Paradise World, as he’s dubbed it. He’s learned the apocalypse never happened and the world is plentiful, but it’s also without a God. Dear old Daddy has abandoned his creation and left an open space. Michael wants that space. So, he wants a way to get into the Apocalypse World.

Opening a rift requires archangel grace

It turns out that to open the world, archangel grace is needed. Apocalypse Kevin figured that out from the angel tablet. But it seems there aren’t any archangels except Michael around. Just where are Apocalypse Gabriel and Raphael? Maybe Apocalypse Michael just doesn’t want to use the brothers who are good, or maybe they’ve been killed during the apocalypse.

Either way, he needed our Lucifer to get through the rift, but Lucifer was smarter. With the door open, Lucifer was able to jump through and escape the hell that is the Apocalypse World. Now Apocalypse Michael will need to find another way through.

This could come from Jack, once Apocalypse Michael learns who he is. After all, Apocalypse Michael has to come through at some point. Christian Keyes is just too good not to get into the Paradise World to face off against the Winchester brothers.

Mary (and soon Jack) is trapped

At the moment, Mary is a badly treated guest of Apocalypse Michael. After finding her and Lucifer, Apocalypse Michael decided to imprison them. While Lucifer escaped, Mary didn’t and now she’s trapped there with no hope in getting free.

That is until Jack showed up at her feet. With the help of Kaia, he was able to get into the Apocalypse World in an attempt to save Mary. Now it looks like the two will work together to get out of their imprisonment and make their way to Apocalypse Bobby. We’ll also find out just what Mary has been through while trapped and tortured.

Angels are still the bad guys

Apart from Castiel (and Gabriel and Balthazar at a pinch) angels aren’t exactly the good guys. They’re soldiers for a war and now they’re trying to regroup. They’re just the same in the Apocalypse World.

When we first met Apocalypse Bobby, he commented that Castiel was different because he didn’t have a necklace of teeth. That was good observation, but really makes us wonder about the rest of the angels (and the Apocalypse World version of Castiel) in this world. It makes a lot of sense why angel bullets are needed.

We’ll get to meet Zachariah in this apocalyptic land, and he doesn’t look friendly at all. Just how far will he go to carry out his orders?
