7 Questions we need answered in The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale

After The Walking Dead midseason premiere teased even more glances at what’s to come in the form of visions, fans have tons of questions. Most of which pertain to how Season 8 will actually end.

More from AMC

To quickly recap the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, we learned that the visions of the future have added some significant new figures to them. In one, Eugene is assisting in farming vegetables. And another depicts Negan working in the field right behind him. All of which takes place within Alexandria.

At the end of it all, an image of a sickly Rick sitting by a tree was shown. His hand is covered in blood but no signs of a wound. It’s unclear what the image means but it definitely seems to be some hint at what the finale holds. At the same time, this raises tons of questions about The Walking Dead’s future; questions we need answered before the Season 8 finale draws to a close.

Has Rick been bitten?

While it might be difficult to believe, Rick could meet his end due to a zombie bite. Now that The Walking Dead television series has deviated substantially from the comics, anything can happen, including Rick’s death. It’s also no secret that Andrew Lincoln has been dreading the hectic shooting schedule required of him so he may be on his way out, too.

Additionally, Rick’s sweaty appearance gives us the impression that he’s sick. Rick’s donned the sweaty look before but this time he looks feverish. If a fever has set in then Rick could be infected. It’s the symptom most commonly associated with infection from a zombie, making it distinctly possible for Rick to have it.

There’s also a bloody splotch on Rick’s shirt that seems to have gone unnoticed. The blood may have been wiped off Rick’s hand but from the looks of it, the blood staining his shirt is coming from the inside. With that known, the blood could be from a bite. It also looks like there could be a bite mark on Rick’s forearm. The angle isn’t clear enough to confirm but the possibility is there.

Is Negan actually going to Bbcome part of Alexandria?

Okay, the shot of Negan farming inside of Alexandria was definitely shocking. Practically everyone who watches The Walking Dead knows that Negan and Rick living side by side is one of the most improbable scenarios that could ever play out, but it just might. If Carl’s vision of the future was accurate, then Rick and Negan may find a way to coexist. Season 8’s signature phrase is “my mercy prevails over my wrath”. Therefore, Rick sparing Negan’s life might result in them living together. Although, anyone who would doubt this scenario is justified in that regard.

Will Rick kill Negan?

The question every Walking Dead fan has asked since Negan jumped onto the scene was whether or not Rick will kill him? Rick has vowed to kill Negan on several occasions but subtle hints have been pointing to him taking another path. One that’ll see Negan join Alexandria. Of course, the rage filled sentencing Rick gave to Negan in the latest trailer says otherwise. Whatever happens, there needs to be some resolution between them, and it won’t be pretty.

How will Eugene earn everyone’s trust back?

Another interesting shot glimpsed in the Mid-Season Premiere depicted Eugene back at Alexandria. Working on another gadget to help the community, he appeared to be back in his element. Though, we don’t yet know how Eugene will redeem himself for the main group to welcome him back in. One theory suggests he’ll fill the Saviors’ guns with faulty bullets while another claims that Eugene will assist Dwight in his coup. Either way, Eugene seems to be rejoining his former friends—that is unless these flash-forwards never come to pass.

Where will outlying communities like Oceanside stand at the end of the war?

Even though Oceanside and Jadis’ group have kept themselves out of the main fight, they’re eventually going to jump back in. Next week’s episode will see Oceanside brought back into the fold so that group will definitely factor into the final arc of “All Out War”. In terms of how is up for debate but they’re going to have make a decision at some point. When they do, their decision will determine what side they’re on when the war ends, and whether or not they survive. But the more pertinent concern is how many of them will die before they realize no one can beat Rick.

Who else will die before All Out War ends?

We all know there’s going to be more death before The Walking Dead closes out its eighth season, the question is who’ll be on the chopping block when it does. So far, everyone seems to be in danger but some are likelier than others. For instance, Maggie Rhee.

Lauren Cohan, the actress who plays Maggie on The Walking Dead hasn’t renewed her contract for Season 9 and just signed for ABC’s drama, Whiskey Cavalier. With that known, Maggie is as good as dead. Unless Cohan renegotiates for more seasons, her character is going to have leave on a concluding note. And the only way to do that on The Walking Dead is in a grave.

Aside from Maggie, she isn’t the only one in danger of dying before the war draws to a close. Morgan (Lennie James) is in the same boat. With James leaving The Walking Dead for its companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, his end on TWD may include a death scene. If he is destined to die, the casualty count of major characters might be bigger than we expect.

Are the Whisperers going to appear?

The last and most pertaining issue fans want to know about are The Whisperers. Ever since that eerie image of a piked head made it into a Season 7 promo, fans have been talking about the group known for performing such acts. If you didn’t already know, The Whisperers are known for piking heads, which is why fans are wondering about their inevitable transition from the comics to the small screen.

Additionally, the end of “All Out War” leads into The Whisperers’ story arc in the comics so there’s definitive evidence towards claims of them appearing in the Season 8 Finale. Now, they may not make a featured appearance but a cameo sounds feasible. If anything, The Whisperers will appear in a post-credits sequence—unless they pop up briefly during the finale but disappear until the following season. Nevertheless, that’s a lot of ifs which could play out during the Season 8 Finale.
