As we turn that page in the calendar, it also means a fresh slate of new shows is headed our way. February’s new shows did not disappoint and it sure looks like March will be no different. Once again, TV viewers will have a wide array of genres to chose from. It is also notable to point out the amount of upcoming series that feature the return of some notable faces to the small-screen.
Now that the Olympics are over, networks are getting back to their normal schedule, while beginning to debut their midseason premieres. In recent years, midseason shows were lesser known or not expected to bring big viewer numbers but times have changed. Many of the shows premiering in March and beyond are some of the most anticipated of the year. Here are the top shows you should check out this month:
1. Life Sentence
Starring: Lucy Hale, Elliot Knight, Dylan Walsh, Gillian Vigman, Jayson Blair, Brooke Lyons, Carlos PenaVega
Network: The CW
Premiere Date: March 7, 2018 at 9/8c
After spending much of the past decade portraying a core character on Pretty Little Liars, Lucy Hale is making her TV return with the CW’s latest comedy-drama. Hale plays Stella, a young woman stricken with a terminal form of cancer, who decides to live there is no tomorrow. Her choices seem to have no long-term consequences until she finds out her cancer is miraculously cured. Stella must now face all the decisions she has made–including marrying a stranger. She also has time to realize how her illness and newfound fresh start affected her loved ones.
2. Champions
Starring: Anders Holm, Andy Favreau, Mouzam Makkar, JJ Totah, Fortune Feimster, Mindy Kaling
Network: NBC
Premiere Date: March 8, 2018 at 8:30/7:30c
Mindy Kaling is finding herself back at NBC but this time she will mainly be behind the camera. Kaling is the creator of the new comedy series in which she also guest stars. The series follows Vince, a gym owner who is living the good life with hardly a care in the world–until his high school fling (Kaling) drops off their teenage son he never knew existed. To make matters worse, Vince lives in a bachelor pad with his younger brother and the duo probably wouldn’t be considered the best role models. Their lives are now put on hold as they must help raise a 15-year-old in New York with theater aspirations.
3. Rise
Starring: Auli’i Cravalho, Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Damon J. Gillespie, Shirley Rumierk, Joe Tippett, Marley Shelton
Network: NBC
Premiere Date: March 13, 2018 at 10/9c
What do you get when you mix Glee and Friday Night Lights? The upcoming series, Rise, will look to match the success of the two teenage-based dramas. Based on a true story, Rise focuses on a working-class town and the affect a teacher has after taking over the high school theater program. The teacher, Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), encourages the students to seek out their hidden talents and discover their true ambitions. As the change sweeps over the town, some are reluctant to adapt, causing a community-wide tension. Viewers may recognize the voice of character Lillette Suarez, played by Auli’i Cravalho, voice of Disney’s Moana.

The series follows Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El, on the planet of Krypton around 200 years before Kal-El is born. Seg-El, a confident 20-something, must fight for his family’s honor after the House of El is ostracized. Krypton will give DC fans a different look at Set-El as he faces redemption, forbidden love, and galactic chaos. Fans can also expect other appearances by popular comic characters such as Adam Strange, Brainiac, Doomsday, and Hawkgirl.
6.The Terror

AMC released the full-length trailer for their upcoming series, The Terror, just a few weeks ago but it sure looks like a can’t-miss. The series from executive producer Ridley Scott is a small-screen adaption of Dan Simmons’ 2007 best-selling novel. A group of Englishmen set out to explore the Northwest Passage when they find themselves stuck in the Arctic ice. Besides the isolation, the crew begins to fall victim to unexplained events. The adventure tale quickly turns into a horror as seen in the chilling footage.
