The return of Bobby is coming fast but it’s AU Bobby. So how different is AU Bobby from actual Bobby?

Be warned, by the time you have finished reading this you will be fed up with reading the word Bobby.

So Bobby is back. We learned at the end of Season 12 that a form of the surrogate father/uncle of Sam and Dean Winchester is alive and kicking.

But, and it’s a big but, it is not normal Supernatural Bobby but Supernatural AU Bobby. And this Bobby has never heard of Sam and Dean Winchester.

More from Supernatural

Jim Beaver returned to the show as the AU version of his former character in the Season 12 finale, an appearance that looked like a one-time gig. It was confirmed later that Beaver would returng in Season 13 for future episodes in the AU world and that first episode is “Good Intentions”.

Beaver spoke to Variety ahead of his return on Supernatural about AU Bobby. We have had a good look at it and here is what we picked up about the differences between this Bobby and our Bobby. (You fed up with reading Bobby yet?)

AU Bobby vs. actual Bobby

Beaver mentions straight of the back that AU Booby is a leader. A protector of a bunch of refuges but also a leader. Straight away we can say that AU version has the same protectiveness that the original did but the leader part is debatable. Original Bobby was certainly always there for other hunters but it would be more accurate to say he was a supporting player rather than a leader.

New Bobby won’t be as fun as regular Bobby; that makes perfect sense really and Beaver points it out himself in the interview. Rufus is dead, long dead, and Sam and Dean don’t exist. AU Bobby is effectively alone in this hell on earth, so has become much more serious and less fun than we are used to.

One thing that was great to learn about AU Bobby is that even though Sam and Dean are not around there is still apart of Sam and Dean in him. New B has no clue about the brothers (except from what he heard in the finale), but he is the Sam and Dean of that world. A combination of the two brothers nicely disguised as their grumpy old uncle.

Original B was always the smartest of all the hunters; yes even smarter than Sam. He just preferred books rather than computers. Looks like AU B will be the same. We know that Jack and Bobby will come face to face and even though AU will want to be all trigger happy at first, he still has the smarts as original Bobby; able to see something for what it truly is, not just off the face of it.

Remember when Dean came back from Hell and Bobby tossed a glass of holy water over him to double check it was truly him and not a demon? Looks like AU is going to be just as suspicious as the original version.
