While watching American Pickers, Gibbs and Ducky think they’ve got the mysterious missing murder weapon from a 16-year-old case.

There weren’t any Tony references to anything he did in this 16-year-old case, but NCIS this week, titled “One Man’s Trash,” did bring Ducky and Abby to the forefront. Ducky has certainly been missed, but so has Abby, despite her being in each of the episodes. It’s just been refreshing to have more focus on her, as we count down to her exit later this year.

Overall, the case was pretty easy to guess. Mike Wolfe guest-starred as himself, giving over the Viking war stick that likely killed a petty officer 16 years ago. It’s been the missing piece of the puzzle to solve the murder. The war stick leads to a collector and museum, which both lead to blood, DNA, and the truth.

More from CBS

It turned out that it was a collector, who had chosen to sell on the war stick rather than destroy the evidence. Wolfe likely didn’t get it back, since not only was it the murder weapon but it also belonged to a museum (and he bought it for a bargain).

Who is Casey, the editor and forensic scientist?

The biggest focus of the episode was on Casey, Ducky’s editor. Her job is to piece together Ducky’s old case notes to put together his book. And, boy, has she delved into the books. She knows every single member of NCIS without ever meeting them and already loves them. Every. Single. One.

Well, it seems everyone, except Abby. Whenever Abby is in the room there’s awkwardness. Casey instantly shuts down and says one-word answers.

After Ducky brings up that Casey is a forensic science grad and can help Abby in the lab, it’s time for Abby to figure out the problem. Well, it wasn’t a problem as such. She views Abby like one of The Beatles. In other words, she’s completely starstruck and has been fangirling the whole time.

Yep, we get it. Abby is definitely awesome. So awesome that we just don’t want her to leave, but it looks like NCIS is setting the seeds to make Casey Abby’s replacement. I’m not sure what I think about that yet, but there’s still time. At least we got to the bottom of the “problem.”

Plus, Casey actually was a big help on the case. Not only did she find the details of the one-of-a-kind (and stolen) war stick, but she helped find the tiny piece of DNA that solved the whole case.

In the end, Ducky, Gibbs and Abby all got what they wanted: the murderer from the 16-year-old case.
