Buffy the Vampire Slayer has become a timeless cult classic and Fox seems to think that it’s time to discuss a potential revival.

More from FOX

21 years ago, the Joss Whedon helmed series Buffy the Vampire Slayer introduced us to a teenage girl dealing with your standard teen troubles like dating, high school, and friendship, with a supernatural twist. This young girl was the one and only vampire slayer, or “chosen one,” who was meant to combat the forces of darkness. Played by the very talented Sarah Michelle Gellar, BTVS became a household name for its stories on growing up with a plethora of genres ranging from a light-hearted comedy, to an action filled drama.

During and after its run, BTVS became a series that essentially inspired several programs or stories in media because of its ability to tap into this impressive level of depth and relatability. After proving itself as an undeniable pop culture phenomenon over the years, it has come as no surprise that Fox often discusses the idea of bringing the popular franchise back to our television screens.

While at the INTV conference in Jerusalem, Fox executive Gary Newman told those in attendance, “It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with,” Newman added, “When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen.” Variety was the first to report the bold statement after initial concern had surfaced when a reboot was discussed back in 2010.

Since then, Fox has seen the revival of other popular series, such as The X-Files and 24, so a series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer would likely generate even more excitement than your standard television revival. Both Whedon and Gellar have expressed interest as well as reluctance to return to the character of Buffy Summers in the past, but if any concept that includes Buffy is in discussion both are essential to its success.

Newman didn’t exactly divulge if he would be more intrigued by a total reboot or series revival, but after experiencing the immersive magic of BTVS, it would be hard to imagine a return to Buffy that doesn’t involve the dynamic cast, writers and series creator himself.

I would certainly be on-board to see Buffy return to slaying evildoers once again, but I want to know if you’re excited about a potential reboot/revival? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
