Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5, episode 12 recap: Scully’s jigsaw skills and Rosa perm save the day

When a mob boss threatens the life of someone dear to the Nine-Nine, you just know he won’t be around for long.

Hot damn, the Nine-Nine are back! Returning from its mid-season break the Nine-Nine returned tonight with season 5, episode 12 “Safe House.” We last saw everyone in episode 11, “The Favour,” help Captain Holt get out of his deal with the infamous mob boss Seamus Murphy. That plan, while successful, had repercussions. The crosshairs aimed at Captain Holt moved from him to his husband, Kevin.
Tonight’s episode opened up where we left off, and in true Nine-Nine style. Kevin being taken into police custody in the most elaborate way possible. Jake pretending to be Professor Einstein, a trolley cart pushed by Terry the student and Rosa the teacher and Holt the plumber, or at least that is what he looked like anyway.

Safe House
With Seamus out for Kevin, Captain Holt has wasted no time in placing him in a safe house. Jake offers to be his personal protection during this time as it is primarily his fault for Kevin being in this situation. As the organized crime unit put a case together against Seamus, Jake and Kevin are looking at a couple of months in the house together.
That would normally be fine if you didn’t have to obey the insane rules that Holt has installed. A no-standing rule unless you are in the designated area. You have to crawl on your belly if you are not in the area. No cell phones or internet and only an hour a day of open window time.

Nine-Nine to the rescue
Eventually, the news everyone has been waiting for arrives. The organised crime unit is about to move in on Seamus. Jake and Kevin are so excited that this could be their last night in the safe house that they get all of the Nine-Nine over to live stream the bust. It ends horribly however as the unit raid an empty house. Seamus has been tipped off and has gone underground.
With the prospect of being stuck in the safe house forever looming over Jake and Kevin, the Nine-Nine decided they need to step in and help bring Seamus down themselves. Rosa has a CI that has identified a hairdresser that dated Seamus and Amy has managed o get hold of shredded paper from the various companies Seamus is connected to.
As the Nine-Nine get to work both Jake and Kevin crack. They need out of the house and decided to go undercover as perverts and head to the library. It’s a nice change for the two and it is all going well until Captain Holt shows up and marches the two back to the same house.

Amy and Terry are not getting far in matching up the shredded paper. After two hours all they have managed to put together is three pieces out of a possible thousand, maybe even hundreds of thousands. Scully then shows up with Hitchcock asking if he can help. He is really good at jigsaws and wants to help out. Both Amy and Terry are sceptical, telling him it is nothing like a jigsaw. That is until he puts together half a page in mere seconds. He is the one!
Meanwhile, Rosa is undercover at the hairdressers. With Boyle and Gina, the gossip queen outside in a surveillance van, they team up and talk to the hairdresser, pumping her for information. It’s not easy work however and Rosa, in order to buy more time, has to keep asking for additional treatments for her hair.
As Holt is escorting Jake and Kevin back to the safe house they are ambushed by one of Seamus men. Jake and Kevin get away but Holt is captured. Jake calls the Nine-Nine for back up just as the Nine-Nine have a breakthrough in their investigation; they know where Seamus’s safe house is.

Throat Punch
Jake and Kevin get their first. Jake tells Kevin to leave; it is no place for a civilian. Kevin reluctantly leaves and Jake makes his way to Holt. He doesn’t get too far before being captured himself by one of Seamus goons.
Now that both Jake and Holt have been captured by Seamus it looks like a sticky end for the two until back up arrives. Kevin. He smashes through the wall in his car, runs over Seamus goon and throat punches Seamus.
Seamus is then arrested and the end is now. No more safe houses for Jake and Kevin. They are finally free of Seamus and each other.
