Will The Walking Dead TV series end with a full length movie or two?
By Paul Zuniga
Apparently, The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead are heading to theaters everywhere. There isn’t a feature film playing but two pivotal episodes will play back to back in select screenings.

To catch everyone up on what’s going on with The Walking Dead, basically, the upcoming season finale will be played in theaters. It’ll then be followed by the Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 Premiere. This’ll be the first time either of the series hits the big screen but it might not be the last.
While this double feature sounds like a one time event, a transition to the big screen makes sense. Viewer numbers for The Walking Dead have reached all-time lows in Season 8 and they don’t appear to be getting any better. If this trend continues, we should count on TWD closing up shop pretty soon. How that’ll go down is up for debate but it would likely happen in Season 10.
At the moment, The Walking Dead is only guaranteed one more season. Season 9 has been confirmed but after that, anything could happen. Reasonably speaking, a tenth season would go into production just to close out the series but a full length movie might be a better alternative. Taking that route would make for a spectacular end and could be marketed solely as a cinematic event. One might argue that a series finale only in theaters would decrease viewership even more but they’re slightly incorrect.

Would a The Walking Dead movie bring back the fans?
In the day and age we live in, exclusive events are highly sought after. Whether it’s for a specific movie, a County Fair, or a single venue of whatever kind, if it can only be found in one place, people tend to gravitate towards it. Knowing that a TWD series finale can only be seen in theaters, it would attract a large audience. The general fan base would be in attendance but word of mouth spreading could see more people getting involved. At the same time, a large enough turnout could reap further benefits.

Assuming the aforementioned TWD movie does as well as can be expected, AMC might reconsider renewing the series. A lot of variables would factor into their decision but a surge in interest could be what convinces the network to push the project back into development. Or, perhaps the success of a TWD movie will see further installments made. Either way, taking The Walking Dead to the big screen is bound to have fans asking for more. Let’s just hope AMC sees that and takes advantage while they can.
