Premiering in January 2011, Bob’s Burgers has been described in multiple ways. Some say it’s a gem while others say it’s dumb. Some will say it’s copying other shows while others praise it for being original. One discussion no one seems to be having is if Bob’s Burgers is an underrated show.
Underrated is a tough concept to break down because it’s unique to everyone. Everyone out there has a different definition of what underrated means to me. If you looked up underrated, the dictionary defines it as “to rate too low.” Basically, it means something isn’t appreciated or valued as it should be.
In the wide scope of TV, there’s a lot of underrated shows and personally, I believe Bob’s Burgers is an extremely underrated show. Despite airing on a major network, there are a few points to support this so let’s get into them now.
The show has an unusual timeslot compared to the other Fox’s shows. It does air on Sundays, but it airs at 7:30 EST. It’s not a primetime slot as some of the older and more popular shows air after that. As we know, the timeslot plays a huge role in how successful a show will be and Bob’s ended up with an unfortunate one.
Besides the show’s timeslot, the show also hasn’t been around as long as The Simpsons and Family Guy. Once again, that’s something out of the show’s control but plays a big role. Those two shows already have established fandoms so Bob’s had/has a bit of catching up to do.
As far as other pieces of media, Bob’s Burgers is vastly underrepresented. Only a handful of stores carry Bob’s Burgers merchandise and it is rarely featured in the store. The show does have its fair share of podcasts, but none talk about new episodes but instead focus on analyzing earlier episodes.
Unless there is breaking news, there are only two writers who cover the show on an episode-to-episode basis. Considering that some shows were introduced later, it’s hard to believe Bob’s doesn’t get more recognition.
Thankfully, Bob’s Burgers has a huge fandom and passionate fans. There might not be a lot of us out there, but we’re extremely passionate. There is always room for more people to join the fandom and spread the love for the Belchers and company.
Hopefully, if you’re reading, then you’re interested in either learning more about Bob’s, are a fan or want to become a fan. There are a lot of reasons why you should start watching Bob’s Burgers but here are just a few reasons why.
The show has a unique concept, following Bob Belcher and his family as they run a restaurant and their shenanigans. The show features a fun group of characters who have unique personalities and their own little quirks, making you like them instantly. Besides the Belchers, there’s a huge catalog of side and minor characters, too.
The main reason why I started watching Bob’s Burgers is that it was incredibly different than any show before it. Bob and Linda feel like genuine real people who were trying their hardest to be successful despite their struggles.
As for the kids, they’re able to be themselves and their parents never pressure them or make them feel bad for who they are. Seeing such strong and loving family dynamics is almost unheard of in animated shows these days.
If you’re interested in watching Bob’s Burgers, you might not be sure where to start. You can start at season 1 and go the whole way to season 8. If you don’t feel like it, you can skip around and only watch episodes that look interesting.
Basically, the show doesn’t exactly have continuity. Yes, there are a few moments that tie in with each other but nothing too intense. If you don’t start from the beginning, you won’t be missing out on much.
If you don’t plan on starting from the beginning, I recommend watching the holiday episodes first. They’re an easy and fun start to help you get acclimated to the show and showcase some of their best episodes.

New episodes of Bob’s Burgers air Sundays on Fox at 7:30/6:30c. Syndicated episodes air on Adult Swim Monday-Friday at 10 and 10:30 EST along with 1:30 am EST on Sundays. TBS also airs Mondays from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm EST.
As underrated as Bob’s Burgers is, there’s no better time to start watching than now. With a movie coming out in 2020, it’s never too late to join the fandom. No matter if you’ve been watching since the beginning or just started today, Bob’s Burgers deserves more credit!
