Things are starting to get a little weird for the group in the wake of Karl’s mysterious death. Here’s what happened on this week’s episode of The Last Man on Earth.

More from FOX

Without clarity on the matter of what caused Karl to seemingly just explode for no reason, the group accepts the fact that Tandy’s gun must’ve misfired and ricocheted resulting in the bloody mess. As they always do, the group held a funeral for Karl, burying him at the prison where he was found, complete with a musical tribute of Eric Carmen’s “Hungry Eyes” performed by Todd on vocals and Gail on her iconic accordion.

In her final words, Gail took the moment to say how happy she has come to be living with the group and thanks Tandy for warning them about Carl’s taste for human flesh, wishing they had believed him initially and done something sooner. Tandy, who was, for once, lost for words, decided to forgo a long self-centered speech and started digging.

Later that night, Tandy and Carol talked about Gail’s change in attitude toward the former, hoping that he can stay on her good side. Melissa and Todd, on the other hand, have an argument about her having known where Jasper has been hiding out.

The next morning, Tandy surprised the group by cleaning up the mess left behind by the explosion. After failing to take the pun-bait Gail had set up for him, she and Erica are left confused by Tandy’s sudden change in demeanor. As Melissa packs another cooler full of supplies to take to Jasper, Todd, two Bud Light Lime on the rocks deep, insists he come with her, leading to another fight.

Deciding the best way to dispose of all the dirty diapers that have been piling up is to tie them to balloons and release them, Tandy does just that. While Melissa found this method to be idiotic, a slightly tipsy Gail found it hilarious and joined him.

After stowing away in the bed of Melissa’s truck, Todd overheard a conversation between Jasper and her, where she promises him she won’t tell the others where he is until he’s ready. As she is getting ready to go back, Melissa sees that Todd tagged along and they have a heart to heart talk about parenthood, concluding with Todd declaring he is just fine being the fun uncle.

Later that day, Tandy shows up in Gail’s room in a suit asking if she’d have a drink with him. While bonding over huffs from a helium balloon and red wine, Tandy reveals Gail’s approval means so much to him due to the fact that he feels he never made his parents proud. After misreading a comment where Gail tells Tandy they are more than friends, he awkwardly runs away.

While Gail and Carol are talking about the latter’s children, Tandy approaches them and insinuates that Gail wants to sleep with him. Used to Tandy’s normal idiotic behavior, Gail just scoffed and walked away.

That night, Melissa agrees to Todd having a child but continues to refuse to carry it herself, saying that they’d have to find another way of Todd becoming a father. The episode ends with the two sitting down to ask Erica “a serious question.”
