With Scoobynatural aired, it’s time to move on with the main storyline. The promo for Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17 is here and it’s time to break it down to see what we can expect.

“The Thing” is the latest episode of Supernatural Season 13. While Episode 17 may not be as highly anticipated as “Scoobynatural,” it does return to the main storyline for the season. With just a handful of episodes (and no more mini-Hellatuses) left, it will be a race against time to get Jack and Mary back, stop Apocalypse Michael, and deal with Lucifer, Sister Jo, Asmodeus, and everyone else against the Winchesters.

It’s definitely not going to be an easy feat. However, this week will see the return of that special archangel and may be the key to get the grace to open the portal. Here’s the Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17 trailer breakdown to get the top takeaways. There are also a few takeaways from the synopsis.

More from Supernatural

1. Asmodeus doesn’t want the rift open (and knows about the other world)

Somehow, Asmodeus already knows about the Apocalypse World. During the promo, he tells Ketch what the Winchesters are doing and that they need to stop it from happening. You would think he’d want the rift open to get Jack out, right? Maybe he doesn’t know about Jack on the other side.

Or maybe he does and Jack is no longer important. Asmodeus is clearly always five steps ahead of everyone else and Lucifer has become his main focus. Will killing Lucifer be enough to release the Shedim (and will they ever come back up?)

2. Gabriel will come back into play

Since the reveal of Gabriel in Asmodeus’ dungeon, the writers have just sat on the potential storyline. It looks like this is something to come back to with “The Thing,” as Ketch makes a “shocking decision.” What will that shocking decision be?

It could be that Ketch decides to take Gabriel’s grace (if he has any left) to help the Winchesters open the rift. Another possibility is that Ketch helps Gabriel escape. During the promo, Asmodeus tells (presumably) Ketch that he owns this person now, so will this be enough for Ketch to take dangerous steps to free the archangel?

3. The Winchesters have everything but the grace

During the promo, we see the Winchesters holding a purple gem. This is presumably the third item needed to open the rift (the second was mentioned in “Scoobynatural”), so all they need now is the archangel grace. Gabriel and Lucifer seem like the two likely options, but will the writers opt for something different?

The synopsis tells us that the Winchesters are heading to a Men of Letters bunker form the 1920s. Will they head there to get the third ingredient or is this to get the archangel grace?

4. There’s going to be a hungry God

During the trip to the 1920s, the Winchesters will deal with a hungry god from another dimension. This suggests that they’re heading to get the archangel grace without bothering their own Lucifer.

Does this mean some of the other Gods are coming into play? Other Gods have been part of Supernatural since the first season, so it’s about time they come back up again!

Here are the synopsis and promo so you can watch and make your own thoughts about Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17’s “The Thing.”

"Sam and Dean’s quest to save their family leads them to a Men of Letters bunker from the 1920s and a hungry god from another dimension; Ketch makes a shocking decision about Gabriel after an encounter with Asmodeus."
