What does Dynasty’s renewal mean for Life Sentence?
The CW renewed 10 shows on April 2, but Life Sentence wasn’t one of them. Could Dynasty’s renewal hold some hope for the freshman feel-good dramedy?
When Life Sentence was moved to a Friday night, it looked to be a bad thing. Then The CW announced the renewal of 10 of its current shows. While Lucy Hale’s feel-good dramedy wasn’t on the list, one important freshman Friday night show was: Dynasty.
Could the renewal of the low-rated freshman show actually be a good thing for Life Sentence? Can we hold out hope for a renewal?

Like the freshman feel-good series, Dynasty started out on a Wednesday night. Despite low ratings, it secured a full-season order and was then moved to a Friday night when it returned from its winter break. Despite being in the Friday night death slot, it’s been renewed for a second rating.
This is hope for Life Sentence, which is moving to a Friday night halfway through its first season. It’s also moving into Dynasty’s current timeslot, which could suggest that The CW wants to see how the series is doing before it renews or cancels it.

The ratings are about the same
The move to Friday will be the tester for Life Sentence, but the ratings for the freshman series have been about the same as the reboot. If The CW is willing to take a chance on the reboot, then there’s a chance that it will take a chance on Hale’s new series.
On top of that, Life Sentence has a relatively strong footing on social media. There are always people talking about it and a current strong #RenewLifeSentence campaign. This is something that the fans want.
The CW pays a lot of attention to the social media ratings and the viewings on the CW app (which those Nielsen ratings don’t include). There’s a chance these are good enough to secure a renewal.

It’s not been canceled
While it wasn’t renewed, the series also hasn’t been canceled. The renewal notice came after the decision to move The Originals into the Wednesday night slot. If The CW was ready to cancel the freshman series, it would have happened at the same time as the renewal of 10 shows or at least shortly after.
This hints that the show is still on the bubble. There’s still a chance that it could be renewed.
The network will likely make a decision in May, which is when it will make a decision on iZombie, The 100, and the pilots coming to the network next season.
