Roseanne hits the chair.

Roseanne is getting tired of Darlene’s kids treating the Conner home as a motel with her being the maid. Darlene’s reasoning is that Harris is busy making friends and starting her own Etsy service. Roseanne doesn’t want to be the disciplinarian instead being the fun grandmother.

Dan feels he has all the answers for Rosie. Her knee is killing her, therefore he installed an Easy Climb 5000 stairlift, taking her up and down stairs. However, pride wins out and she refuses to use it. Well, this won’t work for Dan so he sets the chair in motion and announces the race between human and chair as if he was the horse race commentator.

Becky comes over because her work outfit has blood on it. They learn that the washing machine and dryer continues to be filled with Harris’ clothes she sells on Etsy. It isn’t just the first time this has occurred. It has been going on for days, and Roseanne has had enough.

Both Dan and Roseanne feel Harris is pushing Darlene over. Roseanne prompts her to get on her. Darlene feels its unnecessary, because she is doing laundry, and her mother just needs to cut her some slack. Rosie doesn’t buy it and states: “kids don’t need slack, they need boundaries. The happiest kids are raised in cages… and it keeps the meat tender”

This is even more signified when Harris refuses to give up where she is meeting her friends and who they even are. Darlene lets it slide and even goes along with Harris saying “Darlene” instead of “Mom.” Both Dan and Rosie are taken back by all this. Roseanne says sending a child to the corner to think about what they have done is a waste of time, because all their thinking is, “I can’t believe this loser isn’t spanking me!”

After a long day of watching and sleeping through television with Dan, she finds that Harris has put Roseanne’s clean clothes on the dirty washing machine instead of drying them.  None too pleased she has had it and uses the chair to go after her. Almost to the top, Harris blows by and heads downstairs to change the loads and asks if her Grannie Rose can make her some coffee.

Rosie demands why her granddaughter could be so unthoughtful and wants to know why she just wouldn’t put her stuff in the dryer? Harris quips “Why… it’s your stuff.” Roseanne then demands her to get her stuff out “Now!” Which causes Harris to reply “I’m having a muffin, I will do it in a minute.” It doesn’t take long for Roseanne to pull the muffin away from Harris and the fight continues.

According to Roseanne, Harris should respect the place she is living, because things could get a lot worse. Even going as far as calling her granddaughter an “entitled little bitch.” That drew the line for her and Harris retaliated with “You know what, I don’t need to get yelled at by some stupid old hillbilly.” In response, Roseanne gives her a quick dip in the sink and soaks her hair. Something she probably learned from her days working at the hair salon.

Things only get worse for Harris as she drops one of the shirts she pulled from the dryer on the way upstairs to wait for her mother. This shirt still has a security tag on it. Darlene blows her cool because she has put a lot of trust in her. Harris internally can’t fit in and externally feels like an outsider in Lanford.

The talk can’t wait between daughter and mother so they have it right at the kitchen table. Harris feels her friends are stupid as she questions why someone would leave a security tag on stolen property. Darlene wants to know why she is going to such lengths to even want stolen clothes. Here is where Harris says she needs to leave and get back to her hometown of Chicago.

She has bought the bus ticket and has set a place to live. Darlene sets up a deal. In three years, if Harris is still unhappy she can move to Chicago. Harris gladly accepts, then quickly realizes she will be 18 at the time.

Darlene lays down the law and demands all of Harris’ passwords and the closure of the Etsy shop, She is also grounded for three weeks. Both Roseanne and Dan let Darlene know that she did a great job in disciplining Harris.

  • Jackie has another brief appearance. What does she do outside her degree as a life coach?
  • Mark was also missing in episode three.
  • Best line: Jackie prompting Harris to call her aunt, because “its the only title I have.”
