Supernatural Season 13 has seen the story move ahead and Dean is in the Apocalypse World. Does that mean he’ll finally do the thing he was meant to in Season 5?

Way back in Supernatural Season 5, we knew that Dean and Sam were supposed to play a major part in the apocalypse. They would find themselves on opposite sides, as the vessels for the two archangels at war. In the end, things didn’t play out as expected, as Dean never said “yes” to Michael.

Things may change now.

There are spoilers in this post!

Jensen Ackles shared that he would finally get to play someone other than Dean very soon. His co-stars Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki have both played other characters, with both taking on the role of Lucifer. However, Ackles has only ever really played other versions of himself. One of those was a shapeshifter, but a shifter with Dean’s memories so technically a version of himself. Even Deanmon was a version of Dean.

This new character for Ackles is coming “soon,” and likely before the end of the season. We may have a hint of how that is going to happen; or at least the first steps to see that.

In “The Thing” (Supernatural Season 13, Episode 17), the Winchesters finally got all four ingredients needed for their spell to open the rift. Dean (and Ketch) went through, leaving Sam behind just in case he was needed to save his brother. Now fans fear that this decision could end up with some archangel consequences.

Is it possible that Apocalypse Michael will decide to use the vessel he was always supposed to on the Winchesters’ Earth? Will he encourage Dean to finally say yes–or find a way to force him? This would allow Apocalypse Michael a chance to trick everyone to step into the Winchester’s world and start the apocalypse there.

Right now, I can’t see a reason why Dean would say yes. Apocalypse Michael would need to give Dean a serious ultimatum or two. Zachariah never accomplished it in Season 5, so how could Apocalypse Michael do that now.

Honestly, I hope it doesn’t happen. I don’t want to see Dean taken over by the archangel, but I also adore Christian Keyes in this role. He’s developed Apocalypse Michael in a way that the character wasn’t developed before. As much as I loved Matt Cohen and Jake Abel’s versions, Keyes has stood out for me as the best version of the character–just with that 10 minute opener in the second episode of the season. I don’t want to see him go just yet.
