Supernatural Season 13 hasn’t been the same without Mark Sheppard’s Crowley, but there may be a character attempting to replace his presence. Lucifer could be the new Crowley.

When we learned that Crowley’s death in the Supernatural Season 12 finale was permanent, we were understandably sad. That mean no more “hello, boys” and sarcastic quips and sass from Mark Sheppard. Whatever the reason for Sheppard’s exit from the series, we knew it would be a difficult hole to fill.

It looks like Supernatural has attempted it, though. Lucifer may have become the new Crowley and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

The evil guy you want to see stick around

More from Supernatural

Everything Crowley ever did was for himself. Recently, Mark Sheppard shared that he always played Crowley as if he was constantly winning. Even when he was losing, he was supposedly winning; it was something he was supposed to have planned out. Crowley quickly became an evil character you wanted to stick around. He was devious, cunning, but also useful. Plus, it was Sheppard.

The same has happened with Lucifer. He’s that evil character you want to love but can’t quite bring yourself to. After all, Lucifer is selfish and manipulative. He’s that character you can never trust but can sometimes be useful. Well, he makes you think he can be useful. You’re always looking for what he will do next.

A character to become the joke

Unfortunately, Crowley was never used in the way he could have been after Supernatural Season 8. There was so much to explore with his family, his addiction to human blood, and the need to be loved. Instead, the writers brushed it under the carpet and from around Season 10, Crowley started becoming a bit of a joke of a character.

It’s almost like Lucifer is going to become the same, and this is where Lucifer becoming the new Crowley on Supernatural isn’t a good thing. The writing hasn’t been the best for Lucifer this season. While he’s had the odd humorous and excellent moment, the writers seem to have come to a stalemate. Last week, he was playing solitaire on the floor of Heaven’s throne room because he doesn’t really know what he should do next. He’s become a whiny brat attempting to become his dad. Even Anael called him out on that.

There’s still a chance to change Lucifer for the better. Give him a storyline and make him the scary devil he should be. And then maybe get rid of him this season or next to avoid him becoming the joke of the series.
