The Last Man on Earth Season 4, Episode 16 recap
This week on The Last Man on Earth, the gang plus Mike attempt to get to the bottom of the mysterious “blob” that was seen on the thermal radar, but Tandy has a lot of anxiety about splitting up to find out.
If you haven’t seen last week’s episode or need a refresher, check out our recap here. Mike has been camped out in his truck for a while, trying to figure out what it is he is seeing on the thermal detector. Tandy, not understanding why his brother cares so much, tries to get Carol to sing some REO Speedwagon karaoke with him, but she gets too distracted when the lyrics get highlighted on the screen.
Eager for the arrival of his first-born child, Todd paints the nursery a bright canary yellow, displeasing Erica who would’ve preferred blue. In an attempt to practice co-parenting, the two decide to meet halfway and paint the room green.
Over lunch that day the group is pretty disgusted by what Carol prepared. But due to a lack in supplies she was forced to work with what they had. Since Gail and Melissa failed to go out and get some more food two days before, the two cave and promise they’ll head out soon. Showing up a little late, Mike explains what he has found to the group, without trying to freak out anybody. Announcing that he’s leaving tomorrow to check it out, Tandy becomes extremely worried.
Informing his brother that the “blob” is only 800 miles away, Mike tries to get Tandy to come with him. Explaining that he can’t leave the very pregnant Carol alone for that long, Tandy begs his brother not to go, and he obliges.

Mapping out all the supermarkets in the area, Carol does her best to help out the lazy duo of Gail and Melissa. Ensuring her that they got it covered, the two head out. But in true wino and gun-enthusiast fashion, they head out to the country to drink white wine and shoot skeet for a few hours instead of foraging for food at the nearly depleted local stores.

Catching Mike sneaking out that night, Tandy lays down in front of his brother’s truck to stop him from leaving. Mike ensures him that the trip would be nothing and that he’d be back in a few days, but the two argue anyway. Refusing to get out of his way, Tandy yells at Mike to run over him. Mike hilariously responds that it would drastically improve his brother’s looks. After a suspenseful moment, Mike gives up, turns off the truck, and head back inside.
The next morning, Mike wakes up Tandy who fell asleep by the fireplace in the living room after he had obviously tried to stay up all night. After asking him where his keys were, Mike apologizes to his brother for how heated things got the night before. Refusing to believe it, Tandy doesn’t give in to the request for the keys but agrees to “dick around” for a bit.
While disagreeing on onesies, Erica and Todd are interrupted by Gail and Melissa who barge in asking where all the supplies they “worked so hard to get” had gone. Caught in their lie by a crying Todd, the two actually head off to get supplies, without realizing the weeping was all an act.
That afternoon, Tandy and Mike play their own version of bowling by rolling around on the lawn in a human hamster ball knocking over mannequins. Later, they finish up the day by harmonizing like they always do. After spending some time with Tandy’s twins, they head their separate ways to bed.
Realizing his keys were in the fireplace, Mike retrieves them and tries to head out, but is caught once more by Tandy. Reigniting the argument they had the night before, they really dig into it. Revealing that he is jealous of all that his brother has, Mike begs for the chance to find out what that blob is.

The next morning, on his way to his truck, Mike finds Tandy waiting for him with big news. Telling his brother that the only way he’d let him go is by coming with him, Tandy, with the go-ahead by Carol, kicks off his journey by shaving the rest of his head and beard, with the exception of a rat tail. Using the shaven hair, Tandy and Carol dress up a mannequin so their twins will never notice he left.
Deciding to re-paint the nursery yellow, Erica surprises Todd by doing the job herself. Todd, looking embarrassed to say, had actually come to the room with some blue paint in tow. Laughing it off, the two settle on yellow walls and blue trim to appease each of their wishes.
Apologizing for the wait, Tandy gets in the passenger seat of Mike’s truck with a bag full of snacks and a suspicious fruit punch bottle half-full of “lemonade.” Not falling for his brother’s prank, Mike suggests they “get this show on the road” and cues up “Can’t Fight This Feeling” on the karaoke machine.
While getting the nursery ready, Todd comes across something shocking. After accidentally missing a nail, he knocks a sizable hole in the wall with a hammer. Once removing the loose drywall, Todd notices there is a dead body within the wall.
