Legion returns with an episode that puts a ton of focus on Syd and her past. Check out our recap!

Legion takes us to an igloo in it’s opening scene and then transitions to a delivery room in a hospital. The show is taking us back to the beginning of Syd’s life. First, she’s a sweet girl and then moves on to being a rebellious teen. Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) makes a guest appearance as her mother, which was a nice surprise.

David enters Syd’s mind and finds her in the same museum she went to with her mom. He then finds himself going through some of the same moments we already saw to open the episode along with some new ones. You can tell that David is trying to help Syd work things out, while still learning more about her.

More from FX

For some reason, David is able to see into Syd’s past. He sees a teenage Syd start cutting her leg with a pari of scissors, which is telling of just how much pain she was in while dealing with her powers. Her powers still feel like something that she’s not totally comfortable with to this day. It makes things complicated, but at the same time they allow her to escape her own body.

A younger Syd tells David that he has to figure things out himself and asking her is cheating. At this moment, David is as confused as I am about what he’s really doing there.

Halfway through the episode, we switch over to Kerry and Cary waking up (along with everyone else, as Clark informs them). David and Syd are the only two who haven’t woken up, but Cary claims they are awake based on their brainwaves.

David claims to have figured things out when he’s back at the museum with Syd. She tells him to try again, though, and the look on his face after that is priceless. Not only does this episode show us what Syd’s life was like growing up, but it shows us just how much David cares about her.

One of the most bizarre things in this episode comes when Syd does a body swap with her mom while the mom’s boyfriend is in the shower. She joins him in the shower, but their bodies switch back while she’s in there with him and he ends up being arrested for it. It looks like Syd had this all planned out as if she didn’t want her mom to be with anyone.

Next: Supergirl season 3, episode 15 recap

Syd mentions that David saw the future and it was an apocalypse. Could this be a reference to X-Men: Apocalypse without directly mentioning any of those characters? Possibly. Syd then transports them to a white room and says she’s ready to go back.

The big surprise at the end is that Lenny is back in Division 3. We had only seen her tied to Farouk this season so far. I hope this means that she’ll have a larger role in the coming episodes now. Aubrey Plaza plays the character so well and I know other fans want to see more of her, too.

Legion airs on FX on Tuesdays at 10pm EST. Be sure to tune in!
