The angels are complaining about their dwindling numbers on Supernatural Season 13. Is it ever going to be possible to feel sorry for them?

Supernatural Season 13 has picked up with a story of Heaven’s dwindling numbers of angels. In Episode 9, “The Bad Place,” the angels tried to take Jack to force him to make new angels. Then Lucifer offered to make more, although it turns out that he couldn’t. Now it seems the angels want Gabriel to return to Heaven just to keep it powered up.

There’s a constant sob story of how there are so few angels left. It’s like the writers want us to feel sorry for them. But is that really possible?

The angels have never cared!

More from Supernatural

Since being introduced in Supernatural Season 4, the angels have never really cared about humanity. Zachariah wanted the apocalypse to happen and Uriel kept going on about how inferior humans were. Since then, we’ve had one angel after another view humans as inferior beings and never actually help. Sure, they’re soldiers but they’ve caused and created one problem after another.

The only time the angels have helped is when they want something else in return. Cass has really only been the exception, and even he’s had the odd moment in his earlier seasons (but we can let him off since he has grown) and made some poor decisions (but then everyone does).

Now, the angels have offered to help stop Apocalypse Michael. But only if they get help from Castiel first. When have they ever held up their ends of the bargain?

It’s the angels who have gone up against the Winchesters or fought among themselves. They’ve contributed fully to their own downfalls.

It’s the spirits I feel sorry for

Throughout the whole time Cass was in Heaven in “Funeralia,” it was the spirits that I felt sorry for. With the angels dying, Heaven is dying. That means all the spirits will be kicked out and sent to Earth. Even Metatron didn’t kick out the spirits when he closed Heaven’s Gates, although he did stop new ones from getting in.

Having the spirits on the Earth is going to be extremely dangerous. There are going to be some potentially dangerous, violent spirits released. Even the kindest of people in life can turn into vengeful spirits. Supernatural Season 14 could see Sam and Dean deal with more vengeful spirits moving forward.

The spirit issue is the only reason to help Heaven. It’s not possible to feel for the angels.
