Why The CW would be stupid not to pick up Wayward Sisters

Right now, most of the focus from the SPN Family is on the Supernatural spin-off, Wayward Sisters. The CW would be stupid not to pick the pilot up to series. It really is that simple.

Last summer, we learned that the Supernatural showrunners were planning a spin-off, Wayward Sisters. At first, it’s normal to roll the eyes and groan. After all, we’ve been here before. Remember Season 9 and that atrocious attempt at the spin-off Bloodlines? But then we were told what the premise for the spin-off would be and it was everything many fans wanted.

Sure, nothing everything everyone wanted. After all, we have different tastes. But there was instantly huge support for a show focused on Jody and her wayward girls. This was a spin-off fans had been calling for in years previous and the showrunners were finally listening.

Even before the backdoor pilot aired, there was a bunch of hype. Wayward Sisters was the potential new series for the 2018-2019 season to look forward. It just all rested on that backdoor pilot and whether it would be a success.

And what a success it was!

There’s no doubt that Wayward Sisters was a tremendous success. And this is exactly why The CW would be stupid to overlook it. No other pilot this season on the network has had this hype. I’ve not seen another potential series have fans asking time and time again for a show to be picked up. And I’ve not seen the actors come together to push for The CW to pick up the series.

This is how much it’s wanted.

Then there’s the fact that this is a timely show. We’re in the middle of the #MeToo and #TimesUp campaigns. The TV landscape is changing and there’s a huge focus on bringing more women to the forefront of TV shows. Wayward Sisters has a lead cast entirely made up of women. The last time this happened and succeeded fully was Desperate Housewives (and Charmed just before it). Even they had to rely on some men in the lead cast eventually. Wayward Sisters has already proven it doesn’t need to rely on men to keep attention.

There will be an outcry if Wayward Sisters isn’t picked up

Just looking at the current wishes from fans, there will be an outcry if The CW doesn’t pick the pilot up for series. This is one of those times that I could see fans turning away from the network.

The outcry will definitely be warranted if other shows are picked up that fans haven’t been asking for. I’m looking at the spin-off for The Originals, which is to focus on Hope Mikaelson. Wayward Sisters has been the subject of discussion for years, building up a fanbase long before it was even considered a series. So, no other show should even be considered before this by The CW, especially after the ratings and continued support.
