Supernatural Season 13 ratings continue to decline. Episode 22 saw a small dip from the previous week and The CW’s programming schedule is likely to blame.

When a show continues to see a decline in views in the penultimate episode of a season, you know something is up. It’s almost like The CW doesn’t want people to watch Supernatural Season 13 right now–and maybe that’s because they knew of the news that was coming out the following day!

The ratings for the series were down again. While this was only a small dip, it’s not usual. The penultimate episode is plot-heavy, getting ready for the big cliffhanger that sets up the next season storyline. This should have had people tuning in to watch in droves.

In the end, the key demo dropped by 3.15% to 0.4, while the total audience dropped by 6.69% to 1.298 million. These figures are based on the live + 3-day ratings, so will likely update when the +7 day ratings are taking into account, but they’re still low. Season 12, Episode 22 saw upticks in both areas. So what happened?

Episode preempted for sport

More from Supernatural

The CW opted to preempt the episode in some areas because of sport. This has been an ongoing issue this year–and it seems more of an issue than before. Maybe The CW doesn’t feel the need to put the episodes on as much when they become available on the app the very next day. However, it brings up a lot of feelings of disappointment and anger in a world where it’s hard to avoid spoilers!

This was a bad scheduling choice by The CW. If you’re going to choose to air a show on a specific night at a specific time, you need to stick to that scheduling. The odd break for filming or because of major events (like the Winter Olympics) is understandable, but these odd preemptions in different parts of the world are causing issues for those trying to tune in and watch.

Hopefully, the Supernatural Season 13 finale will be available for everyone on Thursday night!
