Wayward Sisters fans: Why you shouldn’t boycott Supernatural

There are many Wayward Sisters fans planning a Supernatural boycott to hurt The CW, but that isn’t going to be the way to go to get your show. Here’s why.

It’s perfectly reasonable to be angry and upset about the loss of Wayward Sisters. It was that thing that we fought hard to get and then lost at the last hurdle. Well, we’ve lost it for now but all is not over. There are plenty of things you can do to get Wayward on TV, but boycotting Supernatural isn’t going to be one of them.

Many of you understandably want to boycott Supernatural to hurt The CW. However, I think it might have the opposite effect that you want. Instead of getting Wayward Sisters, it could see the Winchesters leave the airways earlier than initially planned.

You hurt the original show

More from Supernatural

By boycotting Supernatural, you’re not actually hurting The CW. You’re hurting the original show. The network can quite easily replace Supernatural if it wants. This is what it does when shows start to fail. Just look at how shows of the past have been replaced. Gossip Girl90210, and many more have come and gone, only to be replaced with the Arrowverse shows.

You’ve got to ask yourself the question: do you want to see at least one show on the air or both shows gone without a chance?

There’s only one episode left anyway

Plus, there’s only one more episode; and it’s the season finale. Boycotting the one episode isn’t going to do much good. By the time the 14th season is on the air, the new shows will also be coming on the air too. It’ll be too late to get Wayward Sisters on the air this season.

You need to do something right now to have an effect.

Boycotts don’t work that well

To be honest, I’ve seen boycott attempts with TV shows in the past and they’ve never really worked out. Criminal Minds fans boycotted when Thomas Gibson was fired from the show. That series is still going and has just been renewed for a 14th season. Grey’s Anatomy fans wanted to boycott after learning Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw were being written out, and while the ratings have dropped, they’ve not been a big enough drop to make an effect. Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for a 15th season.

It takes a lot for a boycott to work. Everyone has to be on-board and there are going to be some who want to watch rather than wait weeks or months to find out what’s going on. It’s already hard enough to stay away from spoilers, right?

All is not lost!

This doesn’t mean you can’t do anything at all to help get Wayward Sisters back on the air. You can still enjoy Supernatural while helping to support the spin-off. We’ve already gone through the options available right now. Use them rather than boycotting a show that you know you still love.
