Why supporting Wayward Sisters isn’t hate against Supernatural

A small part of the SPN Family suggests that liking Wayward Sisters is hate against Supernatural. That’s definitely not the case. It really is possible to be interested in multiple things!

Ah, the joys of any fandom! There are always people with different opinions and views. It can sometimes be a love-hate relationship. Right now there are lines divided in part of the Supernatural fandom over Wayward Sisters. A small group has the view that those who like the idea of a spin-off focused on Jody, Donna, Claire, and all the other wonderful ladies means that they must hate the original show.

That is certainly not the case. As someone who loves Supernatural and really loved the idea of Wayward Sisters, I can categorically say that a love for one does not mean hatred for the other. It really is possible to like multiple things. At the same time, it’s possible to dislike something in one particular show but love the overall show for other factors.

I’m not even sure how the idea that a love for one is a hatred for something else even came about! Maybe it’s a small minority on both sides. Unfortunately, one part is just far more vocal than others and it’s causing tension and arguments.

But opinions can be diverse. We can love a lot of different things at the same time. Just because some want a show focused solely on women doesn’t mean they can’t like a show that is mostly focused on men. Hell, I love Supernatural but I also adore medical dramas like Grey’s Anatomy and I’m a huge fan of historical fiction like Outlander and The Tudors.

The benefit of different shows is that we have something that focuses on a specific need at a specific time. I loved the idea of Wayward Sisters for Jody and Donna, while also showing that being a part of a team that saves the world didn’t mean needing to be on the front like; Alex and Patience are super important members for their own reasons. Meanwhile, I adore Supernatural for bringing different worlds, showing creatures in ways you’d never expect, delving into lore (I wish they’d do that more in the more recent seasons), and showing that grown men can cry without being called babies; that they’re allowed emotions!

Right now isn’t the time for dividedness. It’s a time for support for those who really wanted the Supernatural spin-off to succeed. There’s no point in arguing and putting others down right now. All it does is stir up ill-feelings towards the SPN Family as a whole. And do we really want that?
