A rough episode order for Supernatural Season 14 is doing the rounds. Just how accurate is it?

There’s a potential episode order doing the rounds. Supernatural Season 14 is currently slated to have 20 episodes, according to SpoilerTV. This information was gained from the Warner Bros. press site, but just how accurate is this suggestion? After all, nothing official has been released from The CW. Spoiler TV also states that the information is based on Warner Bros. at this time. The episode orders are subject to change.

SpoilerTV doesn’t just release the potential episode order for Supernatural or just for The CW shows. There are episode orders for all the Warner Bros. shows currently on TV, including the likes of Grey’s AnatomyStation 19, and the One Chicago series. The information together gives us an indication that the total number of episodes for the Winchester brothers may not quite be on point.

The CW fall shows tend to have at least 22 episodes

More from Supernatural

Supernatural Season 14 is currently set for 20 episodes. This is a little off the traditional number of episodes for a fall show on The CW. Unless the ratings dip or the show gets moved to a midseason line-up partway through the season, most of the fall shows have at least 22 episodes. Supernatural has had 23 episodes per season over the last few years.

However, the show’s episode orders have usually started around the 22 mark. The CW orders the extra partway through the season after judging how well they’re doing.

Other shows’ episode orders are off

When looking at the likes of Grey’s Anatomy and the One Chicago shows, their episode orders are also slightly off. Grey’s Anatomy is at 22 instead of the usual 24, while Chicago FireChicago P.D., and Chicago Med are all sitting at 20 episodes, rather than the usual 22-23.

These numbers could suggest that all shows have been underestimated for now. The networks may be waiting to see how well the shows do to determine which ones to extend.

Right now, the episode order is nothing to worry about. It is still very early days and the episode order from Warner Bros. is still tentative. While The CW will have a schedule, it doesn’t have all the finer details organized. That will come with time, and likely after SDCC 2018.

Networks could be reducing content

Over the years, there has been a problem with quantity over quality. Some of the better shows only have 13-16 episodes, focusing more on the immediate problem and less on the filler content. The CW could opt to work with that for future seasons of their shows, knowing that there is praise for the shorter seasons.

However, this is Supernatural. Sometimes the standalone episodes work. In fact, having the filler episodes means that there is more of the Winchester brothers road-tripping and dealing with the monster-of-the-week, something that hasn’t been as much of a focus in recent years. Having 20 episodes would mean a few filler episodes but more focus on the main storyline.
