Cobra Kai is a look into the far future after the Karate Kid franchise, which premiered on May 2, 2018, on YouTube Red. The show is set 30 years after the original Karate Kid series, following the life of Johnny Lawrence and the re-opening of the Cobra Kai dojo. It brings back the rivalry he had with Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio (the original Karate Kid).
The pilot episode has nearly 38 million views and 247 thousand likes, making it the highest rated YouTube Red series of all time.
Killing Eve
Killing Eve is a British drama series based upon the Villanelle novels by Luke Jennings. The show premiered on April 8, 2018, on BBC America. The story follows an assassin named Villanelle, and a cop named Eve Polastri, who become obsessed with each other over time. Sandra Oh, who starred in hugely famous series Grey’s Anatomy, plays Eve Polastri.
The series already has a rating of 8.6 out of 10 on IMDb and a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.
Krypton
With shows like Gotham, a Batman franchise spin-off series, becoming more and more popular, it’s no surprise that Krypton is emerging as well. The series first premiered on March 21, 2018, on SyFy. Krypton tells the untold story of Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El, played by Cameron Cuffe, about 200 years before Superman’s birth. Seg-El is faced with a global conflict: save his past or make way for his grandson’s future?
Season two will premiere in 2019, continuing the story of Seg-El and his journey through Krypton.
The Last O.G.
The Last O.G. is an American comedy series that premiered on March 31, 2018, on TBS. Jordan Peele and John Carcieri created the series, and feature actors such as Tracy Morgan (Tray Barker), Tiffany Haddish (Shannon “Shay”), and many more. The show follows a newly released convict, named Tray Barker, who goes home to Brooklyn only to realize that it doesn’t really feel like home anymore. After realizing that he has lost his wife and children to a white man, he decides he has to shape up.
Tracy Morgan’s return keeps viewers coming back as the first season continues airing.
Splitting Up Together
Splitting Up Together is Jenna Fischer’s first big production since The Office. Devoted fans return to their places as Lena, played by Jenna, and Martin, played by Oliver Hudson, grow through a conflicting divorce, staying in the same home while they get divorced. The two parents decide to live on an alternating weekly schedule, one parent takes care of their three kids and the other is an eligible single. Both Lena and Martin learn valuable lessons about life and their marriage through the process of their divorce.
The series initially premiered on March 27, 2018, and was just renewed in May by ABC for an upcoming second season.
