These are the 5 new shows worth checking out in June 2018

As the spring season officially closes out, we say hello to summer and a number of new shows in June. Here are five to look out for!

It’s never too early to get ready for the fall TV schedule, especially while we’re still reeling from the recent renewals and cancellation news surrounding the entertainment world. Or in Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s case, cancellation then immediate revival thanks to NBC. But that doesn’t mean there will be a lack of things to watch in the meantime.

Whether you are working on your tan or hitting your local theater to see the latest blockbuster, there is still plenty of time to catch a few shows. The new series, which span across multiple networks including ABC, FX, Paramount, AMC, and Freeform, hit on a multitude of genres. Here are the shows worth checking out in June:

1. Pose

Starring: MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, Angelica Ross, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Billy Porter, Dyllon Burnside, Evan Peters, Kate Mara, James Van Der Beek, Charlayne Woodard

Network: FX

Premiere Date: June 3, 2018

TV production powerhouse Ryan Murphy returns to FX but this time with a musical drama series, Pose. The series set in the 1980s takes a deep look into life and society of New York, specifically in the downtown social, literary, and ball culture scene. It is important to note that the show features the largest transgender cast in scripted series history. American Horror Story alum Evan Peters will also make an appearance in the series.

2. Dietland

Starring: Joy Nash, Julianna Margulies, Dariush Kashani, Erin Darke, Alanna Ubach, Ami Sheth, Campbell Scott, Jen Ponton, Kelly Hu

Network: AMC

Premiere Date: June 4, 2018

Based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Sarai Walker, the series centers on a ghostwriter for an editor of a New York fashion magazine. The writer Plum Kettle (Nash), often struggles with her self-image and is facing the complicated journey of self-acceptance. Margulies stars opposite Nash as the series also focuses on men accused of sexual abuse and assault mysteriously disappearing and winding up dead.

3. Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger

Starring: Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, Emma Lahana

Network: Freeform

Premiere Date: June 7, 2018

Marvel’s most recent TV installment focuses on comic book characters Cloak and Dagger, played by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, respectively. Two very different teenagers acquire unique abilities and realize their powers may work better when together. The situation causes their relationship to grow but also complicates certain matters. As for their powers, Tandy/Dagger can emit light daggers from her hands and Tyrone/Cloak can engulf people in darkness and transport using the Darkforce dimension.

4. Yellowstone

Starring: Kevin Costner, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Chow, Dave Annable, Gil Birmingham, Jefferson White

Network: Paramount

Premiere Date: June 20, 2018

Kevin Costner takes the helm of Paramount’s upcoming series which alone might be enough to make the show a heavy-hitter this summer. Costner plays the patriarch of the Dutton family, the group that owns the largest ranch in the United States. That ranch is in a prime location and leads to tension among land developers, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park. Some issues also tend to arise within the family, specifically a son who lives with his wife on the reservation that the ranch borders.

5. Take Two

Starring: Rachel Bilson, Eddie Cibrian, Aliyah O’Brien, Alice Lee

Network: ABC

Premiere Date: June 21, 2018

Actress Rachel Bilson makes her return as a lead character in network TV with upcoming series, Take Two. After starring in the lead role of the CW’s Hart of Dixie and appearing in a short stint in Nashville, Bilson teams up with Eddie Cibrian for the new crime drama-comedy from the creators of Castle. The series focuses on Sam (Bilson), a former TV star of a cop show who is just out of rehab after having a public breakdown. To make a comeback, she shadows private investigator Eddie Valetik (Cibrian) despite his reluctance. Her TV experience pays off as she quickly reveals herself as an asset to his crime-solving.
