In the Season 5 premiere of Younger, Liza helps take down a famous author for sexual harassment, only to have her secret spilled.

Who’s the latest in Liza’s inner circle to learn her secret? That’s the million dollar question that rocks Younger in the Season 5 premiere twist you never saw coming. With four seasons of stretching the truth about her age under Liza’s belt, another co-worker of hers finds out that everything they thought they knew about Liza was a lie. She’s skating on even thinner ice now.

Younger’s season premiere, while further throwing kinks into Liza’s game plan, also tackles the #MeToo movement from the perspective of the publishing industry. Edward L.L. Moore, one of Empirical Press’ leading fantasy authors, receives an anonymous sexual harassment allegation, and it leaves the company’s rollout of his new series in the lurch. Unfortunately for Liza, she’s caught in the middle to an extent she doesn’t realize. Is her lie on the line?

If you haven’t yet watched the Season 5 premiere, be warned. Spoilers ahead!

More from Comedy

No more Edward L.L. Moore.

Remember Edward L.L. Moore? The creep whose books keep Empirical afloat and were buoyed between editors and publishing houses last season? Well, he’s landed back at Empirical with Zane Anders, and Charles preps the fantasy author’s latest series for release. One problem: Sexual harassment allegations against Moore have come to light. Charles wasn’t calling Liza to profess any sort of love while she was in Ireland. Instead, he needed to ask Liza if she, who has worn the notorious fur bikini, had experienced bad behavior from Moore.

Liza misinterprets Charles’ line of questioning and insists her feelings for him are real. That’s neither here nor there, Liza. Besides some residual embarrassment for her one-way vulnerability with Charles, Liza admits Moore never crossed the line. However, before stepping on stage at Comic-Con in the fur bikini once again with a host of other women to launch his new series, Liza confers with the women and uncovers the “flirty old man’s” history of inappropriate behavior. In one fell swoop, Charles cancels the release of his book. But he sure goes out swinging.

Kelsey on the verge.

As if no one has learned this lesson by now, you don’t mess with Kelsey Peters. Don’t cross her, don’t double cross her, and don’t even dare try to swerve into her lane. While opening the first pressing of Marriage Vacation (which is currently on stands for all Younger fans to enjoy), Kelsey notes the Empirical logo on the spine though it should read Millennial. She marches right up to Charles, but he’s unapologetic about the necessity to make the book a bigger hit with the seasoned publisher’s backing.

Not to mention, Kelsey’s got another thorn in her side by the name of Zane Anders. After almost getting her fired for stealing information from her phone and later trying to poach her from Empirical, Zane works alongside Kelsey as a fellow executive editor. He’s throwing his two cents in here and there, and he truly learned nothing from the mandatory sexual harassment seminar. (Well, no one did. Liza’s acquaintance appeared as the company’s lawyer, and she ran out of the meeting. Her excuse? “Very bad diarrhea.”)

Next: When will Liza finally free herself from this tug of war on Younger?

The truth comes out.

The entire Empirical crew heads down to Times Square, where Zane had landed Moore’s book prime advertising space. In the wake of Moore’s allegations, Liza worked to have the advertisement swapped to feature Marriage Vacation. Kelsey’s pleased to discover Charles placed the novel back under the Millennial imprint, but one major scandal could tear it all down.

Charles meets with Moore to hash out details, and as Moore attempts to prove himself innocent, he drops receipts on the unsuspecting Charles: Liza’s a 40-year-old housewife from New Jersey. Just like that, Charles knows the truth. Will he hold onto this information? Will he confront Liza and demand to know the truth? Will this create an even bigger mess? Good luck, Liza!
