More from AMC

Here’s a primer for Preacher Season 3, which is sure to be a bumpy and wild ride.

Where we’re headed

Season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger, which would have left fans of the show distraught if AMC had not renewed. Tulip was killed in the finale by a member of The Grail when Tulip realized the woman was not who she said she was.

In an attempt to save her – or, really, bring her back to life – Jesse is headed to his childhood home in Angelville. His grandmother, or Gran’Ma, has the power to bring the dead back to life. Given Jesse’s history with his Gran’Ma, we know Jesse is desperate.

We have seen flashbacks in Angelville of Jesse in a coffin submerged into a lake as a form of torture and manipulation. Given his attitude toward his grandmother and her cronies, she’s also someone to be afraid of.

As we learn more about Jesse’s life before Annville, it’s a wonder Jesse isn’t more messed up than he is. However, his upbringing with his father’s murder and abuse at the hands of other family members lends to the idea that Jesse is desperate for some meaning to his life. Everything he has gone through has to be for a greater reason.

Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy also have to contend with The Grail, who want Jesse for its own bidding.

Whether that’s to control people or outright steal Genesis, which doesn’t actually work right now, we still have to wait and see what Herr Starr has in store for Jesse. But The Grail isn’t going away and we should see plenty of his group in the third season.
