Bob’s Burgers: Assessing season 4, its impact and likability

It’s officially the half-way point of looking at Bob’s Burgers seasons with season 4. While not vastly different from season 3, it has a lot of high points.

It’s hard to believe it’s the last week of June and time to talk about another season of Bob’s Burgers. Even though it’s the end of June, we’re officially at the half-point in Bob’s Burgers and it’s time to talk about season 4.

Each Sunday, I’ll discuss a season, talk about what made the season stand out, some memorable episodes and if I consider it a favorite. As per usual, I’d love to hear feedback from fellow Bob’s Burgers fans including your thoughts on the season, your favorite episode from each season and general thoughts.

Unlike the previous seasons, season 4 doesn’t have a lot of cool fun facts or notes worth mentioning. Season 4 is incredibly similar to season 3 with its humor, types of episodes and multiple guest stars. It does have a few milestones, but we’ll discuss them in a minute.

Despite not having a lot of fun facts, season 4 is a solid season. Riding the wave of season 3, it helped steady the ship. In essence, season 3 and 4 were key in the series becoming as popular as it is. Without a great follow-up to season 3, I doubt fans would have stayed interested.

Season 4 isn’t known for doing anything ground-breaking, but it did make certain strides and featured a lot of memorable episodes. Strap in, because there’s a lot of memorable episodes to talk about in season 4.

No memorable episodes list would be complete without a holiday episode. The season 4 Thanksgiving episode, “Turkey in a Can” is no doubt one of their best. It features Bob’s usual love for Thanksgiving but also his fear of his kids growing up. It’s a very real yet still hilarious episode. I know many people rank this as their top Thanksgiving episode.

Similar to its fellow Animation Domination counterparts, Bob’s Burgers finally tackled the Super Bowl. Entitled “Easy Com-mercial, Easy Go-mercial,” Bob decides to have a commercial air during the Super Bowl. Instead of using the family commercial, he uses a former player to disastrous results. It’s a fun take on the traditional Super Bowl episode and a milestone for the show.

A second milestone comes in “The Frond Files.” This is the first episode to use the trilogy structure, featuring 3 separate stories. It was an awesome way to represent Tina, Gene and Louise’s stories about Wagstaff. It also began a trend the show would repeat in later seasons.

This next episode doesn’t feature a milestone but deserves a mention. Most shows shy away from direct parodies, but “The Equestranauts” is different. It pokes fun at the “Bronies” of the My Little Pony franchise and weaves a lesson about how harmful fandom can be. Plus Bob in a horse costume is never not funny.

Moving onto the last memorable episode or should I say episodes? In season 4, Bob’s Burgers aired their first 2-part finale with “Wharf Horse (or How Bob Saves/Destroys the Town – Part I)” and “World Wharf II: The Wharfening (or How Bob Saves/Destroys the Town – Part II).”

The obvious milestone is the show’s decision to make a 2-part season finale. It also featured mystery, suspense and lots of singing. It was an amazing choice to cap off season 4 and gave us a preview of what was to come in the future.

Similar to season 3, I believe season 4 is a fan favorite. It picked up where season 3 left off but was still its own unique entity. It also featured a lot of awesome musical moments, guest stars and generally fun episodes.

Personally, I’d consider season 4 as one of my favorite seasons. It’s where the show truly hit its stride. I enjoyed all the episodes mentioned above, but some of my other favorites are “Uncle Teddy,” “Slumber Party” and “Bob and Deliver.”

Do you consider season 4 of Bob’s Burgers a favorite of yours? What are some of your favorite season 4 episodes?
