Sir Patrick Stewart announced his return to Star Trek to address the next chapter in Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s life. This will be a new series altogether exclusive to CBS All Access.

Star Trek fans will likely be elated with the Shakespearean actor making a return to the small screen. Sir Patrick Stewart, who attended at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention, prefaced the announcement, expressing his appreciation for his fans and how The Next Generation had gotten them through the worst of times.

Stewart had expressed that we still have such dark times in this day and age. According to him, this is his reason for making his return. Many people, even non-fans, would likely heartily agree with Stewart on current world matters.

Deadline Hollywood reported that it’ll be “sheparded” by Discovery co-creator/executive producer Alex Kurtzman. He was picked to move forward with the All-Access project of expanding the Star Trek universe.

The series is to move on to the next chapter of Picard’s life. One can only ascertain references in previous stories of The Next Generation in regards to his life choices and paths.

Do you think the series will address Picard’s history having been Locutus of Borg? Will his Moby Dick-like obsession with the Borg in Star Trek: First Contact be addressed? Will they go into more depth flashbacking to the history regarding his relationship with Doctor Beverly Crusher? That’s just a few of many that address his story arc as he’s had many. His experience as a Starfleet captain alone could barely have no boundaries for a continued universe.

Star Trek: The Next Generation had so much depth writers could easily spin-off Captain Picard’s next goal in life and with audiences having craved his return all this time, he’s taking action.

I will always be very proud to have been a part of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but when we wrapped that final movie…

Patrick Stewart also posted a rather poetic tweet referencing his full, reflective and profound statement. So it would seem he’s being thorough in marketing himself via social media.

Wil Wheaton is definitely enthused with his latest reaction and even addressed his disdain of fans reacting to his reaction with “Shut up, Wesley!” He expressed his passion for the show before even starred on it.

Wil Wheaton followed up with a request to stop being so mean.

"“*sigh* Listen, folks. I was a Star Trek fan before I worked on TNG. I remain a Star Trek fan to this day. I am as excited as any other Trekkie in the world about this, and telling me “Shut up Wesley” when I’m excited about this is s****y and cruel. Please don’t do that.”"
