Get ready for more Castiel in Supernatural Season 14. Well, sort of. He’s going to be in a higher percentage of episodes.

It’s no secret that Supernatural Season 14 is a shorter season than normal. With 20 episodes, we’ll see a slightly more focused season that allows for Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki to spend more time with their family when not shooting. That’s awesome, but it also means another thing: more Castiel.

Well, sort of more Castiel. He’s actually going to be in the same number of episodes as before, but it will feel like more. With a shorter episode order, it means Castiel’s episode percentage is higher.

For those who don’t know, Misha Collins’ contract limits him to fewer episodes than Jensen and Jared. The same applied to Mark Sheppard’s contract and also applies to others’ contracts who are series regulars on the series. Only J2 are in every single episode of the seasons.

More from Supernatural

The number of episodes Castiel will appear in isn’t reducing because of the shorter episode number. According to Digital Spy, that means he’s in a higher percentage of episodes. It will certainly feel like more episodes for those of us who are used to seeing him in one or two episodes and then getting a five or six episode break.

In recent years, Castiel has been in 12-15 episodes of a season, which is between 52.7% and 65.2%. With that math in mind, he’s going to be in between 60% and 75% of the episodes in Supernatural Season 14.

Castiel is also going to be more integral to the season, especially at the very beginning. He has a cause to fight for and is in good health. After all, this is the guy who raised Dean out of perdition and now he wants his best friend back.

Then there’s the Jack storyline. Out of everyone, Castiel can help Jack understand what it means to be human and how to do good in the world without powers. This is going to be an exciting time to see the two bond more.
