NCIS Season 16: Will Torres and Bishop become the new Ziva and Tony?
Could NCIS Season 16 finally have a flirty romance, this time between Torres and Bishop, now that it’s clear that Ziva and Tony are never returning?
NCIS Season 16 will be starting soon, leaving many to wonder if perhaps it’s time for Torres and Bishop to become the flirty couple that once upon a time Ziva and Tony were.
Originally added to the NCIS team as a replacement for the impossible to replace Ziva, data “freak” Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop has taken a few seasons before coming out of her geeky shell. It seems that working with Torres brought out a playful and daring side to the rather conservative agent.
Last season, in the episode “High Tide,” Nicholas “Nick” Torres, and Bishop went undercover as a criminal couple, Luis and Charlie. While dangerous undercover work is nothing new for the highly experienced field agent Torres, this was new territory for the reserved Bishop.

First, Bishop wanted to follow the rules, but Torres immediately went rogue. Then, Bishop appeared to surprise Torres with her sultry and sexy undercover persona. Even though she ventured beyond her comfort zone, Bishop trusted Torres and the payoff was a break in the case and a changed relationship between the two agents. Episodes later, they were still calling themselves Luis and Charlie.
This episode is reminiscent of Ziva and Tony visiting Paris. In the city of love, their relationship seemed to change and there was a sexy spark between the two. There was always a question about the relationship status between the two that added to the investigative intrigue of the show.

As an on-screen couple, actors Emily Wickersham and former That 70’s Show star Wilmer Valderrama also have an irresistible chemistry. Valderrama has the sort of comedic charm that NCIS fans have longed for since Michael Weatherly’s departure. The two together have a natural spark and intensity that has not been seen since Cote de Pablo left NCIS.
From the time Cote de Pablo left NCIS and Michael Weatherly moved to Bull, fans have been clambering for a reunion of Tony and Ziva. CarterMatt even recently suggested that the two reunite one more time for a “dream” scenario.
Apparently, the actress who portrayed the tough Ziva David is not ready to return to the show, and Weatherly has his own career to work on now. It seems rather appropriate that Valderrama, who was added to the show when Weatherly left, would fill in that comedic and possibly romantic void.
While the showrunners have yet to discuss plotlines for NCIS Season 16, could they continue to have Bishop and Torres work together and create a storyline that will finally make NCIS fans forget about Tony and Ziva? This is a tall order, but it seems very possible. Fans seemed to love the agents working closely undercover, and the chemistry is there. We just have to wait a month until NCIS returns.
