30 best Supernatural episodes ever ranked
30. Lucifer Rising
The Supernatural Season 4 finale stands out for a number of reasons. One of those is the major cliffhanger that we got. How were the Winchesters ever going to get out of that church alive and did this mean they’d immediately come face to face with the devil? Of course, in the end, God saved them by putting them on a plane–would Dean have rather faced the devil?

However, there was another reason this was so spectacular. Everything from the last two seasons came together beautifully. After the way the third season ended, seeing the Winchesters not stopping Lilith from breaking the seals wasn’t that surprising. However, we did hope that Sam would realize he was being manipulated.
Dean and Sam were on the opposite sides of a war at this point. Pulled apart by the demon that was Ruby. She was certainly a perfect actress from the very beginning, never really fully hinting that she was on Lilith’s side along.
Then there was the way that the brothers came together at the very end. Sam realized what he had done, but Dean didn’t fight him. Instead, he killed Ruby and the two put their focus on the big issue at hand: the opening gate to Lucifer’s cage.
