We’re here ahead of the game for the Supernatural Season 4 rewatch. This year marks 10 years since the season aired the first time and here’s how to prepare for your rewatch.

I did wonder if I’d get to this point in time for the 10th anniversary of the season airing. I’m definitely glad I have. On Sept. 18, 2008, Supernatural Season 4, Episode 1 aired for the first time. We got to see Castiel’s introduction, found out why Dean’s body hadn’t been given a hunter’s funeral, and watched as the brothers tried to find their way to live together again.

It’s time for our Supernatural Season 4 rewatch. Get strapped in and ready for this ride, because it’s going to be awesome. Here are three ways to prepare.

Get ready for the past plot points to come together

More from Supernatural

This is the point that a lot of plot points from the past start to make sense. Eric Kripke had always said he didn’t want angels to come into it. Maybe when he did the first couple of seasons he didn’t think they would, but it’s clear from the third season he was planning this storyline. The man is a genius when it comes to plot foreshadowing.

You’ll have spotted a lot in your rewatch of Seasons 1-3. Now it’s time to see it all come together and spot the events that led the brothers to this point.

Get ready for plenty of laughs

One of the things to do to prepare is to be ready for the laughs. Castiel is one of the funniest characters without actually meaning to be. Misha Collins is a chameleon when it comes to acting– and I say that as someone who has watched plenty of his roles to see how different he is in each one.

Castiel is a soldier but he also tries to understand humanity. Of course, that isn’t going to play out so well when it comes to understanding pop culture, personal space, and references.

Get ready to respect a difference of opinion

Quite honestly, everyone has an opinion about a very particular ship. Actually, there are two ships out there that have fans completely divided. But for Supernatural Season 4, it’s all about the start of the ship called Destiel.

Whichever side of the ship you’re on, respect others’ opinions. Not everyone wants to see Destiel fan art and videos all the time; not everyone sees the relationship between the two characters in the same way. That’s perfectly fine!

At the same time, just because there’s been nothing in the show canonically that states there is a relationship, doesn’t mean people don’t wish that it could happen. And it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t completely exist. After all, it’s there in fan fiction.

Just go into Supernatural Season 4 rewatch with the promise to respect others’ opinions. If you don’t have anything nice to say (to either side of the fandom) don’t say it at all. As the words of the Compare the Market meerkats, “Simples!”
