Better Call Saul returns with Jimmy heading back to an old spot and Kim on her way to a new one.

Jimmy places more importance on the ballots for the Oscar’s over knowing what cases HHM is working on in the opening scene of Better Call Saul. Knowing how Jimmy is, this isn’t all that surprising. He wasn’t the most responsible when working at HHM and arguably still isn’t. We see Kim in the flashback, and she’s completely up to date on the case Chuck was working on.

Once we’re back in the present day, we see Kim working late into the night while Jimmy is asleep. She does find his sketches of the Wexler and McGill logo. The next morning, she asks Jimmy about going to the therapist and he tells her that he decided not to go. You can see she’s disappointed, but she’s not angry with him. After Jimmy goes to work, Kim pays a visit to Schweikart and Cokely. We haven’t seen much of Richard Schweikart in a bit, but he did attend Chuck’s funeral earlier in the season.

Mike and Gus arrive at a new warehouse and Mike breaks down the security that will be needed for the location. Gus ends up having to leave, so Mike deals with Tyrus instead. However, we don’t get to see how that actually plays out.

While at work, Jimmy gets a call from Geraldine Strauss’s nephew about her will. Jimmy asks about a Hummel figure that was supposed to go to Clarence. Jimmy refers the nephew to HHM when he admits that he’s not practicing law anymore. Maybe he is being at least a little more responsible than he was back in the day.

More from AMC

Kim invites Jimmy to lunch to tell him about her meeting with Schweikart. This time she gets the job offer to come in as a partner and run the banking division. Jimmy is surprised that she’d consider it and that she had been doing pro bono work to help the Public Defender’s office. Jimmy is visibly upset by the news, but tells her to take the opportunity anyway.

Mike pays Stacey a visit to apologize to her for how he acted in group when we last saw the two of them together. He offers to pick up Kaylee the following day from school. He’s been struggling a bit on the personal front, as has Howard. Although, with Howard, he’s taking a huge hit at work since HHM’s reputation isn’t doing so well without Chuck. Jimmy gives him a quick scolding to get it together and leaves with his $5,000 check.

Jimmy heads back to his office at the nail salon that he was apparently still paying rent for. Mrs. Nguyen gives him a hard time about all of the phones being a fire hazard so he gives her one on the house to get her to let him keep them there for the time being. Jimmy did tell Kim that he wanted to get into criminal law and we’ve already seen a bit on how that begins.

Gus visits Hector in the hospital, which shows us that he isn’t doing well at all. He sits there telling Hector stories about his youth. One in particular focuses on how he didn’t do the merciful thing by killing an animal. He also mentions that he thinks Hector will wake up at some point. It’s a creepy moment from Gus, but also a power play, even if Hector might not have heard him.

Mike and Tyrus are back at the warehouse when the men arrive. Mike goes over the rules with them and Kai sticks out as someone who could be a bit of a troublemaker. He’s more interested in beer and when the girls will arrive. Mike’s facial expressions during the whole interaction are priceless.

Jimmy approaches the kids who stole his money from the previous phone sales. He offers to give them $100 for each night that he’s out selling phones. However, when they don’t take it, he runs and has some guys take them to a piñata shop to scare them into leaving him alone. One of the guys he hired to scare the kids is Huell and we’re starting to see more and more familiar faces from Breaking Bad in this show.

Everything we know about Narcos: Mexico on Netflix so far. dark. Next

This episode wasn’t the strongest of the season, but it was still pretty darn good. We get a glimpse of just how bad things are with Howard. Kim is doing what’s best for her. Meanwhile, Jimmy is doing his own thing to get by long enough to become a lawyer again. He just has to not get caught. This episode kicked off the second half of the season and I can’t wait to see how they finish it out.

Better Call Saul airs on Mondays on AMC at 9:00 PM.
