9-1-1 Season 2 premieres at the end of the month with an intense two-parter. Just what should we expect this season?

9-1-1 was FOX’s big drama of the midseason. It was so successful that it was renewed early and moved up to the fall for the second season. That means we get the drama sooner and for longer this season. But what should we expect in 9-1-1 Season 2?

At the end of the last season, Abby decided to go on her adventure around the world. This set up Connie Britton’s exit, as she’d originally agreed to come onto the series for one season. After the whirlwind romance with Buck, we’re going to feel Abby’s presence even though she’s gone. Buck is still living in her apartment and waiting for her to return.

While he’s struggling at first, he has someone new(ish) in his life. As Connie Britton confirmed her exit, Jennifer Love Hewitt stepped up to the show in her first TV series since her one-season stint on Criminal Minds. She’ll play Buck’s estranged sister Maddie, who has escaped a violent relationship and looking to start anew.

Maddie is taking over Abby’s position as the 9-1-1 dispatcher, but don’t expect her to be Abby 2.0. She has her own storyline, her own problems, and her own life. One thing that is for sure is she’ll be thrown in the deep end on her first day of her job thanks to the earthquake.

9-1-1 Season 2 isn’t just about Buck and his family. Bobby and Athena are still dating, finding their way around this new life together. This was the surprise relationship at the end but in an extremely good way. The two are so supportive of each other and just want to help people, and that certainly comes with some baggage.

We’re not losing the intensity this season at all. The season premiere is a two-parter aired over back-to-back nights and will give us a major earthquake in LA that puts all our first responders at risk. The second trailer released shows the ground cracking and tearing away as the fire trucks drive over it.

Call-outs this season are going to push the first responders to their limits. They’ll need to dig deep and keep their heads on whenever they go out. This is going to be one exciting season.
