New Star Trek series: 10 Characters who could return with Patrick Stewart
By Shah Shahid
With Patrick Stewart announcing the return of a new Star Trek series, it opens the doors for many iconic and fan favorite Star Trek universe characters returning to the franchise decades since their last appearances.
Patrick Stewart returning to Star Trek in a new series that focuses on his iconic character of Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation is all kinds of exciting for Trekkies! This will mark the first time that a new series features a known character from established canon and continues their story forward. (Possibly) This also means that the series may contain appearances by fan-favorite Star Trek characters as well!
Stewart’s new series, available exclusively on CBS’s All Access streaming app, will further explore “new dimensions” within the life of Jean-Luc Picard. This seems to imply that the series will continue the journey of his character after the events of his last appearance in Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002.

While the Star Trek universe was rebooted (somewhat) back in 2009 with J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek, the most recent Star Trek series, Discovery, also on CBS All Access, is a prequel to that main universe and timeline that existed pre-2009. And this new series seems to be set in that same existing timeline that Trekkies like me loved and grew up with.
While Patrick Stewart is the only confirmed member of the cast thus far, the appearance of favorite characters from the entire Star Trek universe, consisting of shows such as Voyager and Deep Space Nine, is not totally out of the realm of possibility.
