The Supernatural season 14 trailer is out and there is a lot to chew on! One of the scenes depicts Dean (aka Michael)… with knives… asking “Who’s next?” Now we have to wonder, what is this going to do to Dean?

Well, wow. Is that trailer is intense, or what? Supernatural never fails to impress with its teasers and this one for season 14 is no different. It kind of answers some big questions we all have, but it gives us some very new things to think about, too.

Of course, the powers that be aren’t going to give us too much to go on. Just enough is how it’s usually done. But excuse me, what was that? Is Dean, um, carving? That’s sure what it looks like Michael is doing with Dean’s body and when I saw that I just about cried.

More from Supernatural

Yeah, we all know how seriously apologetic Castiel was when he “had to” make Dean work over Alastair in “On The Head of a Pin.” He knew it was going to be really damaging, and it was. Dean struggled with it and was not OK after that. Now that was a “had to” situation, but technically he did make the decision.

In this case, there is absolutely nothing he can do about it. With other possessions, we know that the vessel’s owner can remain aware and often sees everything that’s happening. The number one report after surviving a Supernatural occupation seems to be the horror people experienced as they watched themselves do unspeakable acts. Those stories will pale in comparison for Dean if he sees himself torturing again. Or…

There’s still the big, tough question: Will it bother him? He has constantly felt grief and struggle about this fact and on occasion, given into it. All the feels.

But the biggest thing he didn’t want to tell anyone after he got back was that in addition to the confession of torturing people in the underworld, he eventually enjoyed it.

Just look what happened to his attitude when the Mark of Cain was on his arm. Sure, it could happen to anybody who had the Mark, but he didn’t really seem too bothered about it. Being a Knight of Hell suited him. And he also really took to his time as a demon (karaoke anyone?), but will it happen that way again? This angle is a whole different ball to toss around.

Some questions have been raised by fans as to whether or not Supernatural will maintain continuity or not on this. If they do, no matter which direction they take it, Dean is going to be really messed up after this thing is all over (if it’s over).

The trailer shows Sam saying (maybe to Michael!Dean), “There will be no new King of Hell.” While this is minutely comforting, is he even capable of stopping that? Is he talking to Michael or some other conspirator(s)? I’m still pulling for Crowley. Who needs a new King of Hell if the old one’s back, right? I’m hoping on that for now. I like it.

But there it is, the awful moment when Michael!Dean says, “Who’s next?” Unfortunately, that does indicate that someone already had their turn. At what, we don’t yet know for sure. Is this what’s going to happen?!

Is Dean going to have to watch himself torture people and be King of Hell?! Although it is one of the theories we discussed before the release of the trailer, I’m sort of freaking out about now that I’ve caught a glimpse of the reality. We’ll have to wait a little longer yet to be certain. I do know one thing though, he sure is fancy handling that knife, right?
