Supernatural left us hanging in the balance at the end of season 13, wondering about what was going on with Heaven and Hell. Now that we have some idea about when we’ll find out, we still get to wonder what is going to happen.

Showrunner, Andrew Dabb, gave us the information that we will go straight to Hell in the very first episode of season 14 of Supernatural. But what can we expect from this adventure? SPN Hunters has explored many possibilities and gone way into the little tidbits we’ve been given, but there is still plenty of speculation to be had.

For starters, who will be in charge of Hell now? Lucifer is dead. Crowley is dead. All the knights/princes of Hell are (allegedly) dead. Who is left? The demons are still hanging around and now they have no guidance. We’ve seen what can happen in that scenario and it’s not pretty.

There are a few people who could step up to the plate and take control, but who is the most suited to the job and the storyline? Rowena was the one who got Crowley on his path to leadership of the darkness. Maybe she will use her angst about his death to follow his lead in return. She did seem to look at that throne with envy when she spent some time there before.

There is Michael (currently running around as Dean, of course). All the demons look at Lucifer as their God and he was an archangel. But would they be willing to follow his bigger, stronger brother? Especially considering he technically defeated the previous leader and in the wild, that counts as winning the throne. We know that Michael is also going to be short an army with only a handful of angels left, do you think he would make the switch to get his bidding done?

On that note, would the minions of Hell even have a choice if that was Michael’s big idea? It has already been teased that Michael will begin building his new army right away. This would be a twist that hasn’t really been touched on yet. Personally, I think even the visual idea alone of Jensen Ackles playing the ruler of Hell would be very awesome.

And then there’s Castiel. He will be dealing with a lot in Supernatural Season 14. Not only will he be tending to Sam, but he is looking at mentoring Jack on being a simple human, as well as making sure someone teaches him the basics of hunting. But at the core of it all, he is on the search for his favorite human, Dean.

In an effort to get this done, it has been mentioned that he may be crossing into some dark places we wouldn’t ordinarily see him toy with. Could he take on the leadership of Hell? He has raged through Heaven and taken out those who would not follow. Is he about to do the same to the dark-eyed inhabitants of the underworld?

And there’s also that to consider. What is going on in Heaven? We’ve had the knowledge for many seasons of Supernatural that angels are clearly an endangered species. If by chance there are none left to monitor those mingling the afterlife above, will we see some missing characters make their way back to help with the quests at hand?

Conversely, maybe there will be more angels showing up. There were plenty in the Apocalypse version of our world, and who knows how many other dimensions are even coexisting with the one we consider the home base for Supernatural. There are tons of open doors there, in addition to the ideas about other ways to make angels. Not to mention the fact that God is still out and about somewhere. He must know what’s happening here.

No matter which way the Supernatural storyline goes in season 14, we’re going to see a lot of changes and some of them could be very long-lasting and detrimental to everything we’ve known as the norm. The Wayward Sisters will be around to do some of the heavy lifting, but when it comes to Heaven and Hell, we’re gonna need to see some wings or witchcraft. We’ll find out soon!
