Better Call Saul season 4, episode 8 recap: Team effort
Better Call Saul returns with some unusual tactics to win a case and a new problem for Nacho.
Jimmy is heading out of town in Better Call Saul and we get a look at him filling out postcards and letters. Soon enough, he has other people on the bus helping him out to make the process go a little faster. He gets dropped off at a post office in Coushatta, LA so he can send out his large amount of letters and postcards.
When we first see Nacho in this episode, he’s taking care of business. Blingy owes some money and Nacho proceeds to rip out one of his earrings to tell him that he’ll owe interest on the money he was short this week. When he gets home, we see that he has a nice, big house and he also has two girls staying there with him. We also see that Nacho’s safe has a pair of IDs in it, one for him and one for his dad (along with a good amount of cash).
Mike and Werner take the guys out to a strip club, which is their version of “relaxing.” There’s no doubt that the guys needed to get out a bit, but Mike and Werner head to a regular ol’ bar, which is more suitable for them. The two talk about their fathers. Mike leaves to check on the boys when one is causing some trouble. Back at the bar, Werner is making friends with the guy whose pronunciation he corrected earlier. Mike notices as he walks back in and thanks to some quick thinking is able to get him out before he starts talking too much.

Jimmy is back in town when we see Kim again. She’s hard at work on Huell’s case and Jimmy heads out to the nail salon. The owner gives him a hard time about Kim being mad at him. However, she then gives him some unsolicited advice on what he should do about it.
Kim shows up to her meeting with the ADA with a few associates in tow and throws some motions at her to delay the case. The ADA isn’t deterred by it though and thinks that Huell is still going away. Kim is a fantastic lawyer and I hope her confidence in herself continues to grow because she has great instincts and can really make that work for her when she wants to.
After the boys have had their night out, it is back to work for them. Mike has to have a talk with Werner about what happened at the bar and he promises that it won’t happen again.

All of the letters that Jimmy sent out earlier when straight to Judge Munninger’s office and he’s less than thrilled about it. Some letters left phone numbers, which are the numbers of the pre-paid phones that Jimmy stashed away in his office. Jimmy’s crew from his commercial days joins him to take the calls with the appropriate background sound for each one. Jimmy leaves to check in on the case with Kim and her response is to push him up against the wall in the stairwell and give him a nice big kiss.
Jimmy is impressed with Kim’s work on the case and gives her all of the credit for it, even though it was a bit of a team effort. Kim has to get to work and Jimmy has another office to go look at. At work, Kim meets with Mesa Verde about their expansion plans. However, her attention isn’t quite fully with them.
Mike updates Gus and he notes that the work is solid despite them being behind schedule. Gus is concerned about Werner’s loose lips when he’s had a few, but Mike quickly squashes that concern. Gus isn’t in this episode much, but we know he’s doing plenty of managing even when he isn’t on screen.
Kim finds Jimmy while he’s out looking at an office and wants to keep doing cases the way they just did Huell’s. You can tell she got a thrill out of it, even if it was a bit of an unusual way to handle it. However, I’m here for seeing more of Kim working on cases like that.
Nacho meets Eduardo aka Lalo, who is using the kitchen when he arrives at the restaurant. He’s been sent to make sure everything’s in order and Nacho isn’t happy about it. He’s been fantastic this season and continues to show his disdain for the business, even when he’s only in a few scenes.
Better Call Saul is building up to its premiere, which will be here in a couple weeks. Between Kim wanting to work more with Jimmy and Nacho trying to get out, things are getting interesting. We’ll see more of Nacho next week, which is a plus. I’m looking forward to how things end this season.
Better Call Saul airs on AMC on Mondays at 9:00 PM.
