Agatha Raisin season 2 preview, air dates and answer on whether James will return

Agatha Raisin season 2 is quickly approaching and two of the three series 2 episodes air dates have already been confirmed. Here’s what we already know about the Acorn show including whether James Lacey will be back in Agatha’s life!

The highly anticipated second season of Agatha Raisin is returning on Nov. 19. Ashley Jensen is reprising her role as the sassy and retired London PR exec who moves to the fictional Cotswolds town of Carsley. Based on the novels of M.C. Beaton, Agatha Raisin is trying to fit with the locals and make her mark.

Agatha Raisin is a bit like a comedic Midsomer Murders. The first season introduced us to the clever sleuth as she found ways to get around her lack of domestic skills like gardening and cooking. Season 2 promises to continue the satire of a bucolic small town with dark secrets and bizarre murders.

According to EW, the first episode of season 2 is entitled “Agatha Raisin and the Wizard of Evesham.” This will premiere on Acorn TV on Nov. 19. The preview shows the amateur investigator speaking to a woman who insisted she is “not a murderer” as Agatha hysterically scoffs and holds up her hands. Although the mystery woman contends that “the police may conclude differently,” she insists that she is gifted with a “shrewd and inquiring mind” and will solve the mystery without Agatha’s help. We know that isn’t about to happen!

After accusing Agatha of believing she is “the new Miss Marple,” this mystery woman boasts she is the brighter one with “an IQ of 158.” When she ushers Agatha to the door, her dog pees on a startled Agatha. The brash woman then makes a dig at Agatha that “all the village dogs will be after you now just like all the village men seem to be.”

This is the shocker! The village men are after Agatha? This is quite a twist for Agatha who spent the first season chasing James Lacey (Jamie Glover). Have Agatha’s romantic fortunes taken a 180 degree turn?

At the last episode of the first season it appeared that Agatha finally got her man, the handsome catch of the Cotswolds, James Lacey. After watching James flirt and date other women throughout most of the first season, it appeared that Agatha finally realized her romantic dream. But, this was not to be as her wedding was halted by non other than her husband, Jimmy Raisin, who was still alive, until he wasn’t. The season finale memorably ended with Agatha chasing after the prim and proper James who rejected Agatha and went solo on their honeymoon trip to Cyprus.

As of now, sources at Acorn have confirmed that James Lacey will be in at least one of the season 2 episodes. Although he will not be in all three, fans of Jamie Glover will certainly be happy to see him. But who else will be wooing Agatha Raisin? This appears to be the next big mystery that season two promises to solve!

The second Agatha Raisin episode, “Agatha Raisin and the Fairies of Fryfam” will premiere on Dec. 24. The third title to complete series 2 is “Agatha Raisin and the Curious Curate. This will premiere late in January 2019. Besides Jamie Glover’s part-time return, Matthew Horne (Roy Silver),  Matt McCooey (Bill Wong), and Katy Wix (Gemma Simpson) will all be starring along Ashley Jensen for season 2.

The season 2 episodes will be 90 minutes in length like the pilot “Agatha Raisin and The Quiche of Death,” and unlike the rest of the first season which featured 45-minute episodes. This is a wise choice by Acorn as the shorter episodes lacked some of the quirky little details about each crime and possible suspects that really shined in the pilot. This longer format promises to flesh out each episode and give viewers a real emersion into the seedy underbelly of the enchanting Cotswolds.
