Fans of Lethal Weapon now have a single, unequivocal source for all their scorn. Damon Wayans is very clearly the reason the show failed.

Damon Wayans is leaving Lethal Weapon, which changes everything about the series. Without the two stars of the show, what’s the point? Why even continue? Wayans deserves heaps of blame.

Look, at this point it’s alright to vicariously blame other members of the Wayans family for the horrible decisions Damon Wayans is making. Feel free to boo Marlon. Hope for the new show from Damon Wayans Jr. to bomb.

There is no Lethal Weapon.

By now, everyone has heard about the intense conflict between stars Clayne Crawford and Wayans. Despite original expectations when the show was cast, Crawford quickly overtook Wayans as the main star.

Aside from other issues, this no doubt had something to do with the eventual fireworks between the pair. Ignore the reports of problems on set, the petty social media posts, and the superficial wound Wayans treated like a combat wound suffered in Kandahar. Maybe that’s why Murtaugh’s high blood pressure angle was always a topic of discussion? Wayans knew he wasn’t the Lethal Weapon.

Crawford was the leader from day one. Even the very first scene they had together proved the superiority of Riggs over Murtaugh, which, by extension, means Crawford over Wayans. It was Riggs, not Murtaugh, who showed up first, saved the day, and even delivered pizzas. Indeed, it’s fitting their characters followed the real-life actions and motives, as Riggs extended the initial handshake, the olive branch of truce, and Murtaugh threw a tantrum.

How else can the chain of events be explained? How else can such a callous decision be made? His departure is a death warrant for Lethal Weapon. There was already serious concern about whether or not Lethal Weapon could survive without Crawford. Cancellation is now more certain than a sarcastic remark from Riggs while sitting on Dr. Cahill’s (Jordana Brewster) couch. Not only did he completely screw Seann William Scott, who is still trying to figure out a post-Stifler world, but Wayans basically signed the pink slip for everyone on the show. It’s a completely selfish move, and only reinforces Crawford’s side of the story.

Exactly how long can Lethal Weapon last without the two leads? Is it even remotely close to the same show? Does anyone even care at this point?

Lethal Weapon airs Tuesdays on Fox (for now).
