Better Call Saul says goodbye to Jimmy and hello to Saul Goodman
Better Call Saul completes Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman in the season finale.
Better Call Saul kicks off the season finale with a flashback to Chuck vouching for Jimmy as he becomes a lawyer. As Chuck gets him home, Jimmy proposes that HHM becomes HHMM. It is a nice moment between Jimmy and Chuck as they both lay on the bed and continue singing ABBA. This is one of those moments that give you a pit in your stomach because you know just how far apart the two became as time went on.
Mike doing what he does best
As we head back to the present day, Mike is on the hunt for Werner and has a bunch of guys looking for him. Mike makes a clever phone call to ask what bank branch Werner’s wife would use. There’s no doubt that Mike has the skills to track him down. He even tricks an employee at Travel Wire into giving him some information.
Mike and Gus are being followed by Lalo, who is more than likely up to no good. Mike does notice that he’s being followed so he pulls into a parking lot and when he goes to leave, he jams up the ticket machine so the car behind him can’t get out and it gives him just enough time to lose Lalo.

However, Lalo doesn’t give up. He goes back to Travel Wire to see what Mike saw on the security footage and to see what Mike did while he was there. Meanwhile, Werner gets a call from Lalo and stupidly, Werner starts telling him about the instructions he left. Thankfully, Mike shows up before he can tell Lalo everything.
Mike talks to Gus about Werner and he’s told to wait where he is. Instead, Mike tells Gus that he’ll take care of it, which is not great for Werner, but better than if it were someone else. Werner is naive enough to think he’s going back. Mike does try to keep Werner’s wife alive though by having him tell her to go back to the airport and leave. He does so and it finally hits him that he’s not going home at all.
Gus takes Gale to the work site and Gale is extremely impressed with the whole thing. He’s ready to start cooking, but Gus won’t let him until everything is complete. There’s quite a bit of tension from Gus in this scene that’s nicely contrasted by Gale’s excitement.
Jimmy becoming Saul
Jimmy is spending the day at Chuck’s grave while Kim provides snacks and hydration in the car. Later, Howard is being filmed for a Reading Room dedicated to Chuck. Kim and Jimmy are also in attendance at the event and word is spreading that Jimmy paid for the room. They’re doing all of this to try to impress the Bar Association.
Jimmy is included in the process for choosing three high school students for a scholarship. Jimmy gave a sole vote to Kristy and he confronts her afterwards to tell her that she doesn’t need their scholarship. He gives her this big pep talk and she’s not nearly as enthusiastic about it as he is, but she understands what he’s saying.
When his car won’t start in the HHM parking garage, Jimmy breaks down. He’s hurting, but he’s been bottling so much of it up that we knew eventually he’d break down a little. When he makes it home, Kim has been hard at work on reworking a speech for him. However, Jimmy cleverly thinks to let Chuck do the speaking for him with the letter that he kept.
Jimmy starts reading the letter that Chuck wrote him at his meeting with the board. He stops reading it to talk about how he just wanted to make Chuck proud, which wasn’t an easy task. Jimmy ends up admitting that he’ll never be as good as Chuck, but he can try to be. Little do they know, he tricked them all.
“S’all good, man.” That’s the last line we get from Jimmy as Kim finds out that he plans to file for a DBA to work under the name Saul Goodman instead. The moment has finally arrived and it’s been quite the journey to get here. This is just another wonderful episode from Better Call Saul and I hope we get one more season to see what ultimately happens between Kim and Jimmy.
Better Call Saul airs on Mondays on AMC at 9:00 PM.
