The Walking Dead: Rick’s fate is revealed and fans are not happy

The big episode of The Walking Dead fans have been waiting for has arrived, and it has left many viewers disappointed.
Dead or alive? That is the question AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 9, Episode 5 “What Comes After” answered. This episode has long been teased to be Andrew Lincoln’s last. It was officially announced before the start of the season, interviews took place on the topic, and even the slogan for Season 9 has been “Rick’s Final Episodes.” Knowing all that, fans assumed Rick Grimes would be dying. I mean, why else would this episode be advertised as Rick’s FINAL episode, right?
Wrong. So wrong. But before you read any further, please note there are huge spoilers ahead if you missed “What Comes After” or are not caught up on the series.
Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) calls for a helicopter, which takes Rick up in the air to…safety, we assume? We have a lot of questions. Who are they? Why did Jadis call Rick a “B”? Or, most importantly, why isn’t he dead?!

Don’t get me wrong, I did not want to see Rick die at all. But if he’s not going to die, why tease fans about it? Audiences have been lied to. Again. They hype, was not real.
When it was announced that Lincoln was stepping away to be with family, it was difficult to hear, but we understood. Being away for so long with very little time to be with loved ones and on vacation is rough. But don’t make fans believe you’re really leaving only to return later.
In the defense of Lincoln and TWD‘s production team, maybe he won’t be back. They could have given Rick this “ending” so that Lincoln is able to come back if he ever wants to.

Not all fans are disappointed about this ending, though, some are very forgiving and are just happy there’s hope Andrew Lincoln will return later on. This is a game-changer for the series no matter what happens in the future. And even if Rick returns somewhere down the line, it may only be in cameos or a few episodes.
The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on AMC.
