What movie did you catch in theaters this weekend? The box office numbers are in! Here are the top ten movies of the weekend…

At the moment, there’s something for everybody playing in theaters! Christmas has arrived with The Grinch for families and kids big and small. Those in search of horror can catch Overlord and action seekers will get their thrills from The Girl In The Spider’s Web: A New Dragon Tattoo Story. These three movies battled it out at the box office and only one of them won big.

It’s easy to guess who took over the box office, the Grinch, of course! The classic tale was always a guaranteed winner, but it even exceeded expectations. The Grinch “stole” over $66 million, taking the top spot from Bohemian Rhapsody.

Freddie Mercury isn’t crying over losing the crown, though, the movie is still a winner. Bohemian Rhapsody was reportedly put together with a budget of $52 million and now has over $285.2 million worldwide.

Not only is Bohemian Rhapsody‘s total amazing, but it managed to score better on the top 10 list than two new debuts this weekend, Overlord and Girl In The Spider’s Web, which landed third and fifth, respectively.

Overlord sits at number 3 with $10.1 million domestically. Its reported budget was $38 million, but it has only collected $19.3 million globally. It may not catch up any time soon. However, The Girl In The Spider’s Web performed even worse this weekend.

The action movie only collected $8 million domestically and another $8 million internationally, for a global total of $16 million. Its budget, though? A reported $43 million. Ouch! Any plans the studio had of making this a franchise are surely being reconsidered now.
