Supernatural Season 14, Episode 7 isn’t going to be here for two weeks, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited. Here are the top takeaways from the promo and synopsis for Unhuman Nature.

I’ll admit that the last episode ended exactly the way I pictured. Bad writing? Nope! I’m just used to Supernatural after 13 and a bit seasons. I still enjoyed it all playing out to see if my theories were right. And now, we’re left with a cliffhanger for Jack’s fate ready for Supernatural Season 14, Episode 7 to explore.

And it’s certainly going to do. The promo and synopsis make it clear that “Unhuman Nature” is going to focus on Jack’s story more. There are also a few other teases of characters returning, other storylines becoming a focus, and much more.

Before we get into the promo and synopsis, I’ll put out this warning: there are spoilers! I shouldn’t need to say it but I’ll have at least one person complain if I don’t.

Here are the Supernatural Season 14, Episode 7 promo and synopsis. After them, I’ll get into my top five takeaways.

"CARPE DIEM – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) track down a Shaman (guest star Dimitri Vantis), who may be able to help a friend. Nick (Mark Pellegrino) continues to spiral down a dark path as he looks for answers surrounding the deaths of his wife and son. Jack (Alexander Calvert) turns to Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help enjoying the human experience."

5. Jack reminds me a lot of Dean in Supernatural Season 3

More from Supernatural

Maybe it’s the fact that I rewatched the season recently or that it’s one of my favorite seasons, but Jack is very reminiscent of Supernatural Season 3’s Dean. He knows he’s likely going to die and all he wants is to live his life. What better way than head to Vegas?

Dean is going on the road trip with him. Considering Dean loves to live life to the fullest, it makes sense. Plus, he gets what it’s like knowing he’s going to die and wanting to actually make the most of it.

It looks like Jack is accepting that he’s dying without his grace. Rather than fight it or act scared, he wants to be human. It’s sweet.

4. Nick and Castiel aren’t the only ones returning

Did you see her? Yep, our second redhead regular is back for an episode.

Yes, I do mean Rowena McLeod. Back when the titles were suspected, I theorized that Rowena would be back for this episode. This was long before we really knew anything about what would happen and certainly didn’t know about Jack’s illness. It just seemed to make sense with the title “Unhuman Nature.”

What will this mean for the whole story? Well, I get the feeling that Rowena isn’t going to initially want to help (when does she) but she’ll feel for this poor boy and want to figure out a way to save him.

3. There’s going to be more time for the Winchesters to grow

I know that not a lot of people like seeing Sam and Dean on separate hunts, but this is the way things go when more characters are added to the story. And quite often it’s how we get far more character development and learn more things about who they are as people.

In this case, we’ll see more of Jack and Dean bond. I can’t wait to see this, especially considering they are so similar. We’ll also see more of Sam as a leader and interact with Castiel, Rowena, and others.

I’m so glad that the Supernatural writers haven’t backtracked on Sam as this confident leader completely. He had a wobble and that was normal. But Dean is fully supportive of his little brother and it’s given both time for more development. Dean gets some of the weight lifted off his shoulders, which has been needed for a long time.

2. Nick’s story is back in force

Episode 7 of most seasons has been a plot-focused episode. Just look at “War of the Worlds” last season. Supernatural Season 14, Episode 7 is no different. The episode will bring Nick back into the story.

I’m intrigued at whether the Winchesters and Cass will learn what Nick is up to right now. Could this be the storyline the title is focused on? Is there something “unhuman” about Nick’s nature?

1. Castiel and Sam will do what it takes to save Jack

The synopsis says that Sam and Castiel track down a Shaman to help “a friend.” I suspect that this friend is Jack — although maybe it’s Rowena to help her save Jack. Either way, I suspect everything leads to saving Jack from dying.

It’s clear they’re going to do whatever it takes. This isn’t out of the ordinary for Sam, either. Remember in Season 3 when he wanted Dean to use the tricks of the crazy doctor who wanted to live forever? Sam is willing to go a few extra steps to save the people close to him and Castiel may be willing to do the same.
